Most people probably haven't kept them as they are hybrids and not common at all in my area. If you do a search on this site or a google search for "jelly bean cichlids" some answers to your questions will be there. And relax for a while, a lot of people are working or driving home and can not answer questions within a half hour during the late afternoon.

The behavior you have described sounds to me like standard convict breeding behavior. I would probably guide off that until I saw something different.

They are convicts so yes fry care is like normal convicts

thats a con for you makeing fry when there pretty much still a fry it will lay more and more eggs as it grows

What are you going to do with them ?

Also be prepared for your other fish to start getting beat up or get shoved into one corner of the tank

if he does let me use it can i put the pair and eggs in there tell the eggs hatch then remove the parents? just asked him now waiting for a reply

you could but i would just remove the eggs if there stuck to a shell then that would make it that much eazyier just fill up and tank ( doesn't even have to be a tank you could use a bucket ) any way fill it up with tank water and add a small heater or somethin just to keep the water worm and thats pretty much it eggs and fry don't need a filter and won't need food for a few days

She will, they like normale cons get nasty, she'll stay with the eggs for now but once they hatch and she starts to move fry around all bets are off.
So what are you going to do with the fry?

Ya my cons go for swims then dart back to the nest, most of the time it's more of a chasing off potental danger thing then anything else.

when my jb started breeding i found it easier to remove them and give them there own tank. after the fry mature enough about 3 weeks i moved them to there own tank. then after about another 3 weeks they became feeders for my oscars and jd.

ok a few more Qs poped up in my head.. should i use sand in the 5 gallon ( well gunna ask my friend first since im just borrowing the tank for time being ) but if i am able to use sand will an inch in layers work??? and the shell is goin in there PLUS can i add a castle ( the colorful ones u get at walmart )or 2 in there???

The sand you can do but you will only need like 1/2 to 3/4 inch.
The Castle I would not bother with, not only will the fry hide in it so you wont see them but it eats up space that could be for water, and personally I think they look tacky. If any thing go with some rocks and make caves that way looks way better.

A castle? A CASTLE? You want as much water in there a possible, more water more stability, why waste money on a castle when you sohuld be saving up on a stand or something more important, you will need a sponge filter and heater, sand or gravel would do fine

Sand or gravel isn't needed i would keep it bare bottom you wan't fry tanks to be as clean as possible

well on the fone he asked me why wont the betta tanks work ( no filters and no light and no heaters ) i told him there occupied and he said well talk to auntie and i said ok so she told me well talk to uncle boon tonite so i really dont now YET.

Only a ten? It would probably work oput for some of the fry. if I was you I would just go out and get a 55 to spread out your stock. Then the cons will have plenty of room to do their thing.

How much does he think one weighs at 8 pounds a gallon thats about 440 pounds with tank thats around 490 and stand its a little over 500 pounds seems like alot but most houses could hold it if you have a basement then you would be totally fine

nope this is all part of the reason im movig ( and to live on my own to expeprince ) that being said i have a problem now... my pair of JB cons scare away all the other fish in there BUT the kholio loaches that are right under there nest ( they bred in a shell ) so this being said a Q for u all. should i add a fake castle??? i have 2 of those castles u can get from walmart but i already have 2 so ima put 2 in there one on each end of the tank ( one for the ram ) so will this be ok???

Post some pics of the new look. As far as the castles I still say no they just look bad I think anyway and like stated before with your stock list the more you add the less water you have and you need all the extra water you can get.
