OK advance notice for WA members and also need your input.

I am planning to try to set up a WA Fishing meet in Eastern WA at the

Ginkgo Petrified Forest/Wanapum Recreational Area (http://www.parks.wa.gov/parkpage.asp?selectedpark=Ginkgo+Petrified+Forest% 2FWanapum+Recreational+Area)

I've never been there but hbluehunter swears it to be a nice area.

I know most of us are in the West side but we all know that east side fishing is way better. Especially fishing out of the Columbia.

Now what I need now is a day to do this meet. the Columbia has catfish so we can even leave to go there the night before and fish into the morning. Sleeping in the car of course. But that's just an idea.

With the rising gas prices I strongly suggest we car pool and I think it's fair if we contribute $10 per passenger for the mileage and gas to the driver. So I will need volunteers on who can drive their car there. Let me know what you guys think of this idea.

So this is still a pretty open date. Sooner the better. The days that don't work for me are June 15 (Father's Day) and June 22. Aside from that I THINK I'm pretty open.

I've never fished there but it's right on the Columbia River and is a very nice place. If i'm available on the picked date i'm in...

15th is out of the question for me. But the late night catfishing does sound interesting though.

I'd really like to go, but I need to get a fishing license, new rod/reel and so on.
which right now isn't in the budget.

Hope you guys have fun.

I've been in Vantage plenty of times, never fished. Not sure how the fishing from shore would be. The petrified forest is pretty cool.

http://www.celebratebig.com/pacific-northwest/ginkgo-petrified-forest/

My work schedule has me off on Tues and Wed right now, and switching to Sunday and Monday soon, but with enough advanced notice I could probably mix it up.

If I go I can drive, I've got room for 5 (4 and me) if we squeeze. 3-4 would be more comfortable. My car is a POS that gets good gas mileage.

Wow that's nice. I didn't think there was such a nice spot in Washington state. back in the day when gas prices where 0.98 cents a gallon I would be all over it :(

Someone needs to take pictures if you guys make it out there.

I think there is sturgeon in those waters.

Psh. You aren't looking too hard then. It's beautiful most places.

I actually just got back from a little trip to Wenatchee, fished Tuesday and caught 16 trout. 11 wild (creek fish) and 5 planters (in lakes). I took second to my buddy, who got 18. Was supposed to go rafting today but the weather was crappy.

I can see about getting the 21st off. I'm heading to Colorado on the 23rd (for fishing, rock climbing, and rafting), and could just take off work a day early.

A small hike I did recently.

Or up at Sunrise at Mt. Rainier (from last summer)

I prefer forests, rivers, and alpine lakes but on the east side there are plenty of places at least as nice as that, like the Palouse Falls. I actually find Eastern Washington pretty blah.

Or Dry Falls. Crazy story with that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_Falls

Or how about Olympic National Park? I can't even describe this place besides a gem of the USA. I could pull these photos up all day...

Tell me where you live and I can point you in the direction of a plethora of beautiful places. Washington has amazing natural beauty. I wouldn't live anywhere else, besides British Columbia, Canada.

Thanks for the pics, those lake pictures look awesome.

I googled echo lake and got this: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?city=Echo%20Lake&state=WA&country=us
There's no way that place is in this location on the map.

I live in Marysville 98270
Let me know what you can find, I have'nt found any really amazing, good places but nothing super like what I've seen in the pictures above.
or maybe I don't get out enough :grinno:

I like to travel North or east since the traffic is not bad in those directions :P

I've always been interested in Canada, looks like they have allot of amazing places for fishing and just taking in some scenery.

Here is how to get to the Greenwater lakes.

http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/mbs/recreation/activities/trails/snrd/snrd_1176.htm

I'm not too familiar with the North Cascades, but check out Glacier Peak wilderness. It's about 45 minutes from Marysville, with about 450 miles of trails. I know the Pacific Crest Trail passes through there, and a quick check in one of my hiking books has almost 20 hikes in the area.

I'd reccomend going to the library and seeing what hiking books you can find that deal with the north Cascades.

7 mile hike!
My max is 1/2 mile lol that's alot of walking but it looks nice.

I googled earth Glacier Peak and it looks like it's about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. takes me about 45 min's to get to Seattle.

Looks like all the cool places are far away :(

I would love to find a killer spot ot to far with easy access.
Best fishing by me that I have found is Darrington.. Thats about 45 min or so drive away.

Thanks for the pictures, I didn't realize there was so many nice places in Washington.

I went and checked out the upper Green (Duwamish) River and it's finally dropped enough and cleared up that I can catch trout again. If anyone wants to do some river fishing (bring waders/Mepps/Rooster Tails) and crayfish collecting (I have a trap, also just use a net) let me know. Don't usually catch any keeper size (14"+) but I can usually catch and release ~10 8-12" trout in a couple hours. Probably go out Saturday morningish. It's a nice little hike to my favorite spots. Between the Enumclaw Black Diamond bridge and Kanasket Palmer State Park.
