Well they LOOK like true monoculus. although there is more then just coloration attributing to the difference between Ocellaris and Monoculus.
The fish would have to be dissected and carefully looked at to be 100% accurate.
that is about as pure as you can get when it comes to eyeballing them.. Pure for Flordia Peacocks. Of course the wild SA monos are solid.... most of the time....Heh...
Cichla are kinda like modern dog breeds... almost.. LoL.

they prolly fight identical to largemouth bass :P
from what I've been hearing on here lately, those specimens are very small compared to what you can get in south america.

the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission says they are pure ocellaris; I think they DNA'd them. I've caught or have seen caught plenty in Brazil and that's what they look like to me; they do not look like monoculus!
