How many pounds of sand do you guys think i need for a 300 gallon tank that is 96x24x30.

I would guess about 150lbs.

depends on how think you want it to be. I am putting about 120lbs in my 125 it will be about 1 1/2" think maybe a little more. so I would say about 175 to be safe. Its better to have more then not enough

if you go with pool filter sand, the 150lbs (3 bags) will do.

I would say you need a little over 180-200 lbs., but I like thick substrate. Just rememebr the more sub youhave the more crap it holds.

1.5-2" should be perfect

I would personally say atleast 200lbs. Depending on the look and personal preference of course. I purchased a 100lb bag of silica sand from Home Depot for $10-15 pretty cheap.

My 220 has 220lbs now that I think about it.
