so i bought my first marine tank a couple months go after a year researching saltwater tanks...i got it off craigslist its a 75 gal came with 150lbs of liverock alll the filteration ect. now i have a yellow tang two perculas and a blue hippo..when i bought the tank he gave me a bunch of stuff and one of them was garlic extract? i think its called and i forget what he said it was for anyone no what i would use this for? the only reason y im asking now is because when i first introduced my blue hippo tang he had ick my skunk shrimp took care of it and ate it or w/e then all of a sudden it looks like he got it back now so i was trying to see how to treat it and i do remember him telling me the garlic has something to do with disease or there immune system. if anyone can help me out i would aprecaite it thanks

Funny, I used it this morning. Just add to food and it will help with ick fall kinda like the same it does for a dog with fleas. It will also help with visible wounds or infections and if fish are not eating. Add this each time u feed till its gone or a few times a week for precaution. 1 drop per 10 gal or directly in food

What garlic actually does is create a hostile (anti-bacterial/parasite) environment in the fishes' gut. I'm not so sure that garilc has a direct effect on ick, but I'd bet it does allow the fishes' immune system to focus on other issues such as slime production rather than battling internal issues.

My experience with garlic is that too much won't cause any harm but the fish do tend to react to it in a lesser fashion the more it is used.

Mna I love this stuff. My local shop introed me to the extract about 6 months ago. I have been using it ever since in my salt and fresh. Incredibole to stimulate appetite in inverts ( my mantis shrimp), and fish. ALso as stated above makes a pretty hostile environment for parasites and other nasty crap. A little goes a long way. No more than one dop per gallon.
