nice gigas, nice colors
but answer the questions of everybody, and in no time he will probably eat you goldfishes.
BUT, there's always the chance he won't do it ( the man i bought feeders raise 2 big gigas with two big goldfishes, along with other tankmates, and till now they are still in one piece)

Take the fact that he will eat them out of the picture.
Its not proper fishcare.
Goldfish are coldwater, arapaima's are warmwater...

LOL.
I got a question....at what size do these guys usually start getting the red color? I've heard that some never get it but if they do what size does it start?

Depends on the animal. DNA, environment and diet all play a role.

Do you know any foods that may boost the coloration of a pima?

i just hate it when some people here! act like they know so much about certain fish but in reality they just apply what they heard from somebody in which is not even sure if its true and dont even know the factor why it happened. for example a guy would share aww my pima died in hes 75g tank. SOME! people would say
"stupid! no wonder it did the tank was too small"
didnt even bother to ask how big was the pima. i bet theres a ton of pima owners here in MFK but afraid to share in because of these flaming stuff.
give the guy a break, you dont even know what hes capable of. who knows maybe he got the wealth to support the pima. if the guy didnt reply to his post just walk away and read another thread. dont say ridiculous things just to raise your post counts.

Anything with canthaxin or any variant of it. Sometimes you can find it in a powder form and mix it into the food if you have been able to switch the arapaima to something like a Mazuri Gel diet (which is a great food for them by the way).
Also, things like clam, shrimp, krill etc...Just be careful with clam - high calcium levels can cause other issues. Also try and feed fresh shrimp with the shell on them (people peel the shell all the time, and it's throwing away good stuff).
As for the following post:
In the 75 gallon example - the tank was too small reguardless of the fish's size, so it wouldn't be important to ask it.
Not flaming so much as putting out facts. When it comes to this particular fish, few have had success. And failures are all noted so they aren't repeated. Learning from other's mistakes is very important in the fish keeping hobby. Normal fish keeping rules do not apply to arapaima. They grow faster than almost any other fish I've ever seen in captivity. Metabolism at a young age is key in it's proper care - and housing one is not something the average keeper should try. Diet, enclosure and day to day care can be life or death every step of the way, and there is very little room (if any) for errors.
It sucks to lose one (nothing like having a 12 foot long fish die in your arms, trust me, I've been there) - so we are trying to prevent it from happening to others.

Educate. Not torment. Honestly maybe it's just me but every 'pima thread turns into "nice pima, do you got a pond?" "come on you're obviously hiding something" "he's probably rushing it back to store" "omg this guy has no idea how big this fish will get.."
Honestly it's only a 'pima..
He lives in thailand for crying out loud where you can fish for pima...

i was saying the 75g for like a grow out tank like a 3-10" pima you woudnt put them in an outrageously large tank in that size right.
im not questioning your knowledge about pimas and everything, i know you know alot of things as i read on john's thread.
all im saying is others tend so be so harsh, just because the person has not replied yet, they would say 'i think his busy finding it another owner or finding public aquarium for it' ' how could you put a pima in that size of tank' yet all they saw was just the pima and a piece of the glass. give the person the benefit of the doubt. if he already have the pima the best thing is to help him take care of it, advise and stuffs, not say nasty things that he was stupid for getting it. i read these stuff in most sections here, again please try to keep the comments smooth.

That's fine.. it seems that every new person with a 'pima gets "messed with" though.. Just like to see things more positive. Or people just giving info and leaving it at that.

Knowing his thoughts from the past he would suggest putting them in a larger tank..
He won't agree with me but they grow out in smaller tanks fine. Those who have lost pima's in smaller tanks either had a sick fish, one that was removed too early or had another issue IMO. And that's fine just a difference in opinion I guess.
Agree with the last part though.

I wouldn't start even a baby in less than a 500 gallon round pool.... even 750 or more would be better. I have yet to see a healthy adult that was raised in a standard glass/acrylic aquarium.
But even then, so many that have them die on them at small sized won't invest the time/money into getting a real cause of death. They just toss them out or dry them as a mount for their shelves. Nothing wrong with that, but it makes it hard to learn what steps to take next time. I'm all about learning what happened so that info can be shared.
The last two I delt with that were raised in small glass tanks both ended up with weak vessels in their hearts which lead to ruptures causing internal bleeding/heart failure. A pair prior to that were lost due to liver/renal failure after not having enough room to swim. Swimming is a very important part of the fish's ability to digest and metabolize what it is being fed.

wow thats intense man..but pretty true. mine jumped out of my pond and died..i think he was bullied by my other larger fish...did u have any problems with jumping arapaimas zoodiver?

I've seen them jump - but I have never had one jump out on me.
For small ones, I keep pretty tight mesh covers over them. I have seen large ones jump high enough to get their entire body out of the water - but the large ones I've kept have all been in exhibits with fairly high edges/fencing to them, so getting out would take a lot of work.
