H. armatus have a huge from Bolivia, north and east through Columbia, Brazil, Vinny, to Surniame and Guianna. Are you meaning that they are caught from the the only place they are found or the only place they have been caught from export?

If you feel any doubt, i cannot see why not. they are 2" in estimated size. they do not show any color as of now. if they grow up to 4 to 5 inch i will surely sell them for the price they go for as they are extremely hard to get. the buyer takes the risk of spending $50. i will not hold any responsibility on what happens when it grows.

Looking at a lot of Pics between Armatus and Tat, the spot behind the gills on Armatus is more thin and long where the Tat has more of a thick spot.

I hope these do turn out to be Armatus:D

the caudal fin has some tint of color but at this size i really can't see the true color, i do not want to speculate. it is small and when it grows it will show more colors. in a few weeks or months i'll have some larges sizes when they grow. same batch as this ones.

The size of a quarter? You guys out there have some big quarters if they are 2inches...LOL.The tail in the first pic that Xcuter posted looks VERY promising to me. That and the cadual fin looks overly large. Hue of adipose looks good too. But then again way smaller than any previously seen......But IF I'm not mistaken wasn't Lilneat one of the very first in this country to have an Armatus compliments of a fellow across seas by thew name of Suchi (SP)? Also if he's had small redtails then he is one of the few over here to know what they look like when they are that small. And he says Tats. I don't know if any of our Payara experience is similar to his or not.My Armatus (RIP) was 2.5 maybe a lil bigger but even that small it's gonna be tough to compare that to a specimen the size of a quarter.

LOL..:ROFL: Bro, LiLNeet was one of the first, if not the first to have an Armatus in the states. Also, at that size. He had a them grow with the same size Tats. When he grew out the Tats I picked up four of them. So yes, he definitely has experience with Payaras.

LOL..:ROFL: Bro, LiLNeet was one of the first, if not the first to have an Armatus in the states. Also, at that size. He had a them grow with the same size Tats. When he grew out the Tats I picked up four of them. So yes, he definitely has experience with Payaras.

Same here. I seen a lot of them with freckles and I think those are Tats. The ones with out freckles are the ones to watch for (JMO as I never ever seen Payaras under 5" except scomb/ralph)

thank you for all the comments. i hope for the best to the people who already purchased the fish. i want to let the members know and the buyers that it can be an armatus and it can be a 'tat'. I am being straight forward here and not fooling anyone else. if you feel that you are not confident on the fish, please hold on to your decision and wait until i can grow them out. but please do not expect me to price a 4 to 5 inch fish at $50 since i need to risk a lot to bring them to size. :D

I want to make it clear that the fish is not a 100% full guarantee of an Armatus, it can end up being a tatauaia.

I'll say. I bout 4 DZ guppies and they were chasing them around the tank with aggression. The bigger of the 2 I have ate 3 guppies quick and chased the 4th on the top of the surface. Now dont get me wrong, but my Tats never followed food unless it was a snap away (goes for all 3pcs I had). So Im at 50-50%

In the next 3-4 Months people should see a significant difference of appearance. Tats & Armatus has fast growth rates to a certain point

Tats will grow at a fast rate until perhaps 8-9". Then the growth spurt just slows down.

An Armatus will continue it's growth spurt till about 12-15" than it slows down. Armatus also has some noticeable girth than a TAT, also fangs are more pronounce and thicker than a TAT.

Who's harping? I read through most of it and the person who has dead fish simply stated that. Nothing more. I said 20% make it cause most people that bought them were wanting Armatus. If they turn out to be Tats they will either be sold or killed at the hands of other fish. That and personal experience in keeping Tats tell me that when young mortality rate is high due to stress from shipping. No one said anything bad about Rich...I know I even thanked him and so did many others. I really don't see the reason to be getting all defensive.
