Mine are always shy, but heres what ive heard, start them out as fry with nothin in the tank, no place to hide, that way they are not as shy, also anytime you walk up to the tank feed them, so they are used to coming up to you as you are lookin in there

i dont know though, i think p's are just instinctivly shy

Try to make a habit of walking by them often. When you feed them... make your presence known.... and watch them for awhile. The more they recognize that you are as much as a part of the tank as they are, they will become less frightened when people are near. Get them used to light as well by keeping it on as much as the light allows.

I'm not sure about taking away all of their hiding places... I don't know if it would over stress the fish... but you should be able to get them comfortable by just letting them know you are there often. It will take awhile.

that wolffish was a erythrinus erythrinus aka red high-fin wolffish and if it was bigger then your pirahnas probably would have eaten or killed them....they (not this specific species) but wolffish eat pirahnas in the wild...

my little rhom still very shy when i'm turn on the light, so should i turn off the light orkeep it on??

You wont get progress quick. Leave the light on... give him some time to get used to it. It might take a couple of weeks... it might take a couple of months. Just don't burn your bulb.

is it just me or do i see blood all over this. at least the wolf died in peace and not torn to shredds. do you have more than 1 tank or do you like to watch your pets die? damn dude, i've never even had P's, but even i know you don't mix these fish. oh well each to thier own. yes wolf fish eat P's, but red high fin only get 6-10"s.   :screwy:

There's no easy way to say this but what you are doing is wrong. Most of those fish are going to end up dead at some point. Most likely the only reason they haven't started eating each other already is because they are frightened. Trust me you need to house the serras separately and alone and even the pygos together is a risk. If you don't have the tank space I suggest getting rid of the elong and manny and giving the pygos a try but honestly if you leave all those fish together it will end in tears if not tomorrow then soon :uhoh:
Oh and the elong looks like it has a wound or some bad ammonia burn on it's lower jaw was it like that when you bought it?

Imagine as though you had a prison with no cells... no guards... just a big gymnasium full of killers and locked doors.

nonono, i seperate them already, the wolffish and the diamond black are together in one tank but i use one plastic bpoard to seperate them. but the wolf fish just jumping out from the fish tank~~~and my dog ate him!!
And the elong is not the amonia,he always hit the glass so he become like that... :naughty:

02-18-2006, 5:56 AM
hihi, everybody, i think i'll buy a new tank, u guys think that about 70" is enough for how many piranha??

rumblesushi
02-18-2006, 8:26 AM
well the point is that your serrasalmus species need to be kept ALONE, 1 tank for each rhom, one tank for the manueli, one tank for the elong.

Then maybe your 2 pygos can be kept together, if you feed them regularly.

Your wolf wasan ery ery, and this one is harder to get than a common wolf (hoplias mal). It doesn't grow that big, but probably would have killed one of your piranhas if a P took a nip at it or something.

i know i know, now i seperate the manuili already, but the piraya , ternetzi, rd belli still together , but nothind happen, i think is ok~~ :naughty: and the wolffish, i seperate them already b4, but i think he want to eat the fish and then jumping from the tank...

see to compat them being shy I just sup a ton of places to hide. when i come in the room they all dart in there but they always come out 2 min later. they know if i do anything they have somewhere to go. so I would say give them to many places to hide. it makes them feel safe. stress free.

Nice fish, I have 7 baby rbps right now and am thinking about starting up another tank for an elong. Would be awesome to have more than one tank full of piranhas.
