Is it possible for a male dovii and a female freddy to breed? If so does anyone have pictures. I have both and they are definately paired up and acting like they are going to breed. I just read iheartfishies say that her male and female dovii are both *****es. Thats weird she says that because the male just beat the crap out of a bigger barred midas. They are both about 7 inches but the midas is a lot thicker.

Anything is posssible...but more than likely not going to happen. A lot of fish will go into breeding behaviour and have nothing really happen. My dad has a pair of Lyonsi in the pond that breed regularly. When it happens, the Texas and the Midas will act like they are going to breed. Your best bet is to get a divider. They will breed right through it and no one will get hurt. Are there any other fish in the tank?

spawning cichlids are much more capable and furious than non-spawning cichlids. Its not surprising at all that the breeding dovii could beat down a midas of the same length.

Whatever, the male dovii used to constantly hide up in the decoration till he started trying to bone Ms. Freddi. :swear:
Rather breeding or not a dovii is more than match for a midas of equal size. Its should not be shocking when a once shy dovii comes out of its shell ands lays the smackdown on a tankmate that was prevoiusly dominant over it. Infact its to be expected because most of the time dovii under 14" are quite shy.

Its funny that people say that "dovii under 14" are quite shy" because even though I know they get whatever everyone claims 26 inches. I have only seen maybe three or four people with ones over 14 inches and those were all 14-16. So maybe a better statement might be all dovii are shy since nobody has ones over 14. Im not tryin to be a dick GTS it just sounds that way

Firstly fishman on *********** had a 22" dovii. Dannydovi and johnnycichla both have males over 20" ( pics are on there website http://www.cichlidsoutheast.co.uk. They also have a video of a 25" male dovii to access it all you have to do is join their site.
Mojo on *********** has many pics of his male who is 19".
Here are few pics of dannydoviis fish..
So no the statment I made about dovii being shy under 14" does not need to be changed.. :)

I know of every guy you're talking about, very reputable guys; those pics of dannydovii's fish are abot 18 months old now.... he put those things up on CM before I was even banned there, lol!
I bet the fish has grown another inch or three since that time.
Yep he is even larger now. Maybe 22".
