Def not GATF. I posted a thread here somewhere about the ATF's that RW got. Also an MFKer here went down there and confirmed they were def not GATF. But on another note, I hope you guys get what you paid for.

Wow I'd be upset. I had faith in them knowing what they were selling from previous experiance. Make sure you email them or call to tell them it's not the right species..
I don't think you guys get ripped off price wise as all species are worth at least $100.00 I think but I feel bad for those who already paid and won't get gatf..

JMO... I always ask for pics of actual species before I buy. Or atleast try to get someone that is close to I.D for me. Thats what I did with River Wonders

I am going with brevis for headshape and goliath for lack of stripes...:nilly:

thanks for the try. I think the rash of these rare fish at around the same size from different vendors seem like they are all from the same source. But that doesnt mean a thing. The source could have a mix of hits and misses. The little armatus rash is also very similar.

GATF has a longer snout and F/BATF have a smaller snout (not 100% sure on the info, but it is here somewhere. Just to lazy to search:D)

Brevis are pretty damn rare themselves, so whatever its good cause brevis top out around 15" mark..but if you paid GATF money, well sorry

It is 100% not goliath. The head/jaw on goliath is very obvious I think once you have owned one. I have had my guy since about 3"

no stripes stay till adult hood for all species except GATF and possibly brevis,
head shape can be the only way to ID most ATF, GATF have a broad snout and no stripes, FATF/VATF have more slanted/pointed mouth with stripes, and I don't know about brevis except they have small heads and compacted...

I dont know how you guys do it. I dont see a diff. I guess you had to have owned one. Can any one put the two diff atf 2-3"er next to each other? I'm sure this has been done many times before. So many lazy folks like me must have asked for it in the past

Hes not 5 inchs for sure im really annoyed by it. I talked to him and he is convinced they are GATF, I allready have vitt and didnt really need another. He definitly is different from my vitt=color and tail shape is more hart like but not GATf

I talked with the guy this morning and he had delayed my shipping because " we wanted to make sure that the first set we sent out made it ok"...and then told me it was for sure going out today and I would get a tracking number by email. I just got home from work and I have no email. I'm skeptical that they even have enough to send out now. Maybe the first few orders were actually GATF and the rest were sold knowing they weren't GATF?
As far as asking for a picture before buying a fish I will tell you this. Any vendor you ask will deny sending a picture. I've asked multiple times to multiple vendors and have been told something like this every time- "No bro sorry can't take a picture of a single fish, I posted pics on the site you can check out."
He told me on the phone that they were 100% GATF....he stated many times that were 100% GATF. When I asked him if there was a guarantee he said no, but not to worry as they were for sure GATF.
Either way, I get an ATF (hopefully)...If this turns out to not be goliath, then I wasted $60 for shipping which I would've saved ordering this through the LFS. BUT....I don't like being lied to.
I'll have to wait until tomorrow morning and just hope that I get a GATF.

I have dealt with them before. My experience is I never got my fish and had to call paypal to reverse the money. Good luck with you.

Mine arrived today, and both were DOA. Thankfully I also ordered a few from another vendor, and they are swimming happily in the tank.
On a side note, I am pretty convinced that mine were GATF's. Just comapring to my FATF and VATF. Head structure is clearly different, and the tail is more rounded, kinda like lobes.

Look at thesew with a grain of salt..... Dont pay attention to the coloration, and just FYI, the head appears a bit longer when placed next to my VATF, or FATF. These fish are very small as well, close to 3 inches.
I must admit that without seeing them side by side I would have assumed this to be a VATF. Tail is much more rounded, and head seems longer. This is in comparison to fish of the same size. Of course I can't get good pics of the live ones as they are in my 450g and only about 3 inches....

VATF has line/stripe on the body, and the nose/jaw is not that flat/square

Buyers has to take some sort off responsibilty of doing there homework before buying. Their is "ENOUGH" information now covered on several threads about properly ID'ng a GATF.
This was not like 3 yrs ago when it was only 1 person in the whole United States who had one. Just a year or so ago probably about a few dozen GATF's were available in the states.

OXYGENATE ....OXYGENATE .... put some airstones and get the water circulating. Slowly drip to avoid PH shock & Temp.
If you have Amquel drop a squirt in there.

Also if you have a canister... Take off the tip of the out-take of the water. Make the water come out above the surface to create more air in the tank (if hes in the tank), and add some salt.

That's the positive way of thinking. Specially the price is reasonable.
He is in a tank with 2 airstones. I will remove the spray bar on the canister filter. He is moving his fins more now and it looks like he is trying to live. I called and they said if he died they would ship another one.
I've said before that if these are not GATF that I wouldn't be upset about that. I'm only losing the $60 on shipping and I'm still getting an ATF- which is the point anyway right? The only thing I would be pissed at is being lied to. I cant say yet that I was lied to as I won't post pictures for I.D. on a fish that may be dead soon. It may still be a GATF...the head looks more square and there aren't any stripes...but he is laying on his side next to an airstone so I cant really tell at all. And I'm sure pictures wouldn't help- he is laying on 1 side and I cant see him very well.
Either way, I will end up with some sort of ATF and the rage will subside :) It will look good in my tank regardless ....as long as it is swimming and not dieing on the bottom :)

Those are forksalii.. mine looks exactley the same.. not the red on the bottom lobe of the caudal fin like all forksalii.. i bought my forksalii as vittatus but after researching im almost 100% positive

I guess what threw me off was that on both of mine the tail does not come to a point, rather they were very rounded. All of these other pics the tails are much more pointed. Seems odd.

body color,the pic that isn't your ons the bottom is brevis, see the tail also how it is more broad and not as thin and pointed, also how its body is more silverish with less visable lines.
the one above it is tanzinea/ farskulii like you have, see stripes and thin pointed tail shape...

The only bad thing right now it that I sent them pics at 10amish of the fish, and still haven't heard back from them at all about my $$$$. My only beef with this place is it's very hard to communicate with them at times. Anyone else had DOA and heard back?

If you buy a $60,000 Vette and you get a Chevett would you be pissed it's the same type deal!!! It's not rocket science

body color,the pic that isn't your ons the bottom is brevis, see the tail also how it is more broad and not as thin and pointed, also how its body is more silverish with less visable lines.
the one above it is tanzinea/ farskulii like you have, see stripes and thin pointed tail shape...
Well mine look more like the one in the last picture...silverish is due to the picture taken with flash i guess and with that flash of cos the line is less visible. I remember my small vatf also got a very fate lining when it was 3"+

I really think they dont know what they selling and dont know the different. If any of you dont believe me then just go talk to him in person. The truth is I know it is not vatf and gatf haha... So should be a Fatf but since i never seen a bervis and taft before so i dun know how to tell..

Well I had an experience with them. First of all no advance shipment notice at all.Armatus shows up in an almost empty bag and dies the next day. They did replace it though. Again without telling me until a few hours before arrival.Fish survived and is now 15''. Since then they wont reply to any of my emails as I was seriously trying to buy a small tigrinus.Personally now, I wouldn't give them the time of day. BTW I finally will be getting my tigrinus this week for 175.00 locally.So in reality they actually did me a favor :)
I must say they did send me the right thing twice and the survivor is awesome.They did however lose a customer for life.

Well to my understanding...most atf cannot take long time traveling in plastic bag. Mine turn upside down before i even bring home from lfs...they get tired struggling inside, but after awhile they are alright. Since my journey is consider not so long so it still alright... but for shipper, they have to bare the lost and freight cost. For those who ship wrongly I not so sure about the shipper but some local lfs where i come from cant different out what is what...eg some catfish selling $200 plus and i ask them what the name for fun and they dun even know...but I know it a jau cat...I even know 1 lfs owner still ar with me that vatf is confirm gatf cos of some book he got..

I think a better example in this situation would be if you ordered a Z06 vette for $45k and received a C06 vette instead. If it were truly a Z06 then it would have been a hell of a deal but it is still a fair price for a C06.
I ordered 2 Pustulatus puffers from a wholesaler through work for $50 a pop. I pretty much knew they would not be the $200 puffers but it is a gamble I took and when dealing with wholesalers there is no such thing as individual pics.... I still got 2 really nice Fahakas that have a lot of the red in their coloration...
If the pics on RW are still the same ones then to my untrained eye those do not look like GATF at all. Mouth is very round and pointy. If the fish you get does not look like the pic you can argue but if it does then you got what you paid for. Not sure how many employees they have but it could as with most fish it up to an individuals interpretation as to the actual species. Plus there will be variation among the same species (how man pure breed dogs look exactly the same?)...
Hope your fish arrives alive and healthy and provides you with the joy of ownership no matter the species.

Man this is aggrivating. Before the fish arrived I was able to call them and almost always get an answer. Now I can't get them to respond to anything? Still no refund, and no communication at all? Anyone else have any luck?

100% NOT POSSIBLE. they've not been bred except once in Japan, over 20 yeras ago, and those were vittatus! All the people receiving goliaths now are left over from last season, which lasted until January this year.

Don't mean to be rude, but I'm not quite sure if you are in denial. GATF from last season would be 9"-10" already, even VATF from last season would be already 8". 4"-5" is freshly imported

the ones posted, are not goliaths. I'm 100% sure. all the wild goliaths from January are at least 10" long, cannot be shipped anymore. There are a few from hobbyists, that are still small.
all the freshly imported one, I'd call slender tiger, h. forskalli or what you may.
So more than likely they are vitti or forsk... i really dont care anymore i just want my fish... I talked to them on the phone today and they said all the atf were dieing during shipping? They said it was a problem with there water so who knows i will have my three thursday i'll throw some pic's up when i get them.... Whats the main difference between vitti and forsk? can they be kept together? thanks

forskalli stay small, probaby won't past 15" for most people, slender, and fast., neat fish usually very dark markings on the body.
vittatus get real thick, nice colors and black markings., they easily get 20" plus in captivity, grows fast, and are most aggressive.

Ask them for a tracking # so you can see where the package is?
It's not a tracking issue at this point. They are nervous about sending fish out because they have had a lot of casualties. It all goes back to the same thing- they say one thing and do another. If they honestly have this much trouble sending fish, they should not be shipping at all, EVER. I won't be buying from them again, regardless if it's a "deal" or not.
Live and learn.
Still no refund posted for me, they claim they refunded on Friday last week.........

Ya...I remember I go to ask how much the catfish cost...they say $200++ so i test them and ask what is it....and they dun know...crab... but i know it a jau cat cos i got do some research before "Me a Catfish freak" haha best part he ask the boss the boss also dun know so end up i tell them...but i dun think they can remember...:ROFL:
