I still think yours looks more like a lacerdae but like I said I'm not the best at ID'ng them. But the head shape is a little different then most of the malas I've seen, it could just be the region it's from.

Over the course of a month and a half I had sent him about 7 or 8 emails asking what wolves they had in stock. Never heard anything from them. Luckily I found another supplier with some and had a reply within an hour, they will be getting first pick as my supplier as long as they have what I want ;)

KRSwop1 why do you believe my fish is not lacerdae?
Well, lacerdae have a much more random blotch pattern and your fish seems to have the dark blotches in the same location as a malabaricus. Lacerdae and aimara's tails are much thicker and taller than malas. Their tails are much more parallel after the slope of their back, where as Mala's tail taper's down more from their back (it's narrower at the base of the tail than it is closer to the back). Then there's the jaw structure that needs to be taken into consideration. That's the easiest way to ID malas from the other species. If you can get a pic up from under it's chin, I can tell you for sure. If you search back through my threads, you can find pics of my old tapajos lacerdae and compare their pattern.

I'll try and get some new photos, it has that striped pattern with or with out the combination of the diagonal bars to form that herring bone pattern only during the day. In the evening (with the lights on) it looks exactly like the lacerdae SLANTED is trying to sell right now. The dentaries are parallel and non-convergent.........

It's true that lacerdae's sometimes have the dark band, but it's nt as prominent as it is in other wolf species. Here are a few pics of my old lac when it was smaller. This is what I was talking about as far as their pattern goes. It's random blotches, not a herring bone pattern like malas. And slanted's photos don't show the lac pattern very well, because wolves get darker as they get more mature and the pattern becomes not as noticeable.

It's a mala. It's not a matter of how far apart they are, it's the shape and structure that help ID the species. The dentiaries move further apart when a fish breathes or opens it's mouth. The shape though doesn't change. Convergent means that they come together at some point. They don't necessarily have to touch, but they aren't running parallel to the jaw line, which lacerdae and aimara's do. Here's a pic I found on the web. Hopefully everyone will understand this after the pic is posted. And don't get me wrong, it i definately a cool wolf, but it does matter in IDing it. 1 lacerdae's are worth a lot more money, so if you decide to sell it you know what it's worth. And 2 if you paid a lacerdae price for a mala, you should get your money back.
So, as far as the pic goes, mala on the left (convergent) and lacerdae on the right (parallel).

Well I know that but I'm comparing the relative size to say a Dovii or GATF or something. They would need much much larger tanks as they are much more active.

My roomie has my cam so picks will have to wait until tommorow after work but im thinking one of the two for sure, pics as soon as i get in after work tommorow

it is.............
A WATER COW...
and yes, sleeper gobies DO have some nice teeth.
It's a gobby for sure..............If you wanna make sure it is wolffish or gobby, make him fasting for some days and then feed him with little fish. If he chase the fish fastly/aggressively, you can be sure that he's wolffish but if he looks very slowly in chasing the fish, then he is gobby/water cow. But I am sure that he's gobby. :naughty:

Not a wolf.. it's a goby. Wolves have one dorsal fin, that guy has two. The mouth is just like a mouth of a marble goby and the head shape / eye location is different from a wolf. Still a nice goby though, I'd love to have another one.

when the goby is hungry it will chase after its prey too.
depends on the fish itself.

It will wait till the feeder approaching its mouth, or chassing very slowly. I do know since I keep 3 gobbies......

I've owned both as well and I can say this is true and untrue. My wolf will not chase prey when hungry, he will slowly stalk it. Same as my marble goby did.
But it doesn't really matter because we can ID that as a goby based on the pics :D

Its cool...dont worry about it bro. Either way enjoy ur new fish and Channarox is right, it all depends on the individual fish I have seen some wolves that actively chase and hunt their prey down (fast as lightning). Others simply ambush either way a WOLF is EXTREMELY FAST when it strikes even if its not moving at the moment. Rarely do they miss...its incredible to watch.

Here goes a 10" (or so) Gold Wolf I just picked up over the weekend:headbang2
The most active fish I have ever seen, hands down!!!!!!!!
Quick Question since there is a lot of Wolf experts here.......
In the 1st pic u can see a hole on his lower jaw. Is that HITH?? I knew he had it when I picked him up. Prev owner said he has always had it and it gets smaller and bigger from time to time and that is the biggest it has gotten
Thanks:D

hmmmm could be a scare but probably not if its getting bigger and smaller HITH can get bigger quickly but it useually takes a long time for it to heal up so if its getting smaller quickly then i don't think its HITH

Lol he definitely was pissed he was about to dive bomb me in that pic. He will first flare his gills at me and if i don't move my hand he will curve his body into an S shape like and snake. Then shoot out and hammer my hand hes a surprisingly fast fish. He doesn't like intruders he bites everything that enters his tank. Even the grave vacuum and fish nets i use to try and get rid of all those hornwort needles. Hes a very fun fish total glass banger like a cichlid and is all ways hungry, Love this guy
