I have a pond in the backyard here in FLA. Its about 2500 gallons, id love to put a Gigas in there. Anyone ever tried it and if so, where do you get them? I cant find any commercial websites at least. Please link if you have any info! THANKS!!
pretty sure they are illegal in FL. I think the only bony tongue fish you could legally buy is a silver arowana. But i may be wrong.
here is a link i found. i used to live in Fl so i did some research and couldn't really own anything i wanted at the time except for a silver arowana.

They are illegal to have in FL.
Getting paper work is a pain. Even as an aquarium, it took a months to get paperwork just to transport one out of the state back to MN.

Illegal in florida, and besides, you pond isn't really a suitable set-up for a pima.

I guess I can always dream then lol. I was hoping to get him big an fat so I could donate him to the Jacksonville Zoo. They have a HUGE ONE!
THANKS!
did you ask the zoo if they wanted another one?
In general, Zoo's are not interested in our over sized pets.

That pond and your yearly temperatures.................................you are open to better things than that. Depending on the dimensions you can even go with elongated fish.

There is a little park off of 118, east of Blanding Blvd. that has a good dock to fish off of. I couldn't tell what kind of fish were there but there were a bazillion. Take some small hooks and bread to make bread balls. Scatter bread crumbs across the surface and when they start going nuts, toss out a bread ball on a hook.
