Ok so I totally know not to buy fish before you have tanks ready, but my wife was so cute and excited picking out the stock she wanted, I bought it all for her right then. The result: Four neon tets, two strawberry tets, two cherry barbs, and four gups and an algae sucker all chillin in a 2.5 spring water jug for a couple of days, and they survived praise jesus! -__-. But if your wife/girlfriend tries to use that charm, RESIST, and get the tanks ready first! Dont be like me<------------ :screwy:

The dictionary (encarta) defines a tetra as a tropical member of the family Characidae, popularly kept in aquariums, by that definition pacu, payara. piranha, and african pike are all tetras, for that matter so are african tiger fish, (family Allestidae (african tetras)).

HAHA Gotta bump this one back up. OK so my wife and I are getting the tank ready for the little guys, and we go to our local good shop, now keep in mind before we went she kept saying "OK ok we can't over do it we can't buy this we can't buy that". We walk in and and she runs to the stock tanks picking out a new white and nicely blue rayed female crown betta, a new fire red male crown betta, two black mollies, and a red eye TET!! HAA. Not to mention I talked her into an Aqua CLear for my 20 which now has two! IRID sharks(SID & Nancy, I got a male and female, score!) :headbang2 . And another AC filer for the ten gallon for the little guys. I wonder if we are overstocking the ten, hmm. DOesn't seem like it so far each seems to have plenty of room. Oh yeah I also got in a wentil(SE Asian plant) for the IRIDS, hee hee. :naughty:

Two IRIDs in a 20 gal tall? No way man, it will take them at least a year or so to start outgrowing that, and we will be out of our apartment and in a house then, so heh heh. I will move them to bigger quarters and raise them to be bigger fish!!!

they're gonna outgrow that very quickly. 1 year is way to long for them to be in a 20 gallon.

:duh: DUDE!! Trust me a year is not to long at all, not even taking into account organisms grow with their environment...-_-. These IRIds will be fine in 20 gal for the time being, hell it may not even be a year. Point is a year is plent of time to let em grow out of that tank.

if i can even get the wife to talk at all about the fish for 10 min. im happy. its soooo hard to get anything out of her. she likes the fish, but does not care too much about changing anything. any time i say something about her tank or make a suggestion she ends up getting mad and tells me to leave her tank alone (except when it needs cleaning). im only allowed to do maintnance on it . i told her to make the 90 gal hers trying to get her involved and it has worked a little bit. she just hasent became OBSESSED like me yet,

They are eaten but sought mainly as gamefish rather than food fish as they are so narrowly built that they carry relatively little flesh for their size.

I've been cut off from buying more fish - and from going to petstores in general. Since I can't go "buy" one... I've begun "trading" :grinyes: with a local store with quality fish. That way, I can smile with that big grin and say "but HONEY!!! I traded a pair of paradise fish for the 8 inch eel..." It works a little better :)

This thread makes me laugh, I'm also glad to know I'm not alone. I just got my first tank, and it only took me about 4 months of hovering over the classified to get it. My wife hasnt been the least bit interested the whole time, she usually just rolls her eyes when I talked about it...(I should ban her  )
Now that the empty 125 gallon tank is in our living room, she wants to see it stocked. When we have gone into the fish stores, she starts telling me what fishes she wants. Right now I just have a tank and a stand, I still need everything else but when it is time to put fish in it, I'm curious to see how she will be
