So I bought my fiancee a male Betta for mothers day, and it's crammed in a little Betta tank. I felt bad for it and picked up a 20H yesterday. Now I know you can't put other male Betta's in together but what about other tankmates? I was wanting to put a small school of Cardinal Tetra's and a Cory cat or two in with him. Will there be any issues, or are they pretty much a one fish one tank deal?

i think those should be fine. just nothing with a long fancy tail, they'll shred them. but they aren't hard to keep i mean seriously i kept one in a bowl with a lilly plant for a few years, and rarely changed the water lol.
but i think that should be fine. they're just nippers, and the tetra are pretty fast, and cories are at the bottom out of the way

Thanks for the info :D

Corys will definitely be fine. The Cardinals should, as well. The only thing you need to watch with small, quick betta tankmates is that they don't nip the betta's finnage.

i would try and breed by adding a female...i only have a male in this tank at the moment but if i see a nice female i will add it... i also have cories and pleco and guppies in this planted tank i.... and everyone is doing great together... i also have a 15gal divided tank where i have just the betta males..with glass petitions.. they seem to be doing well too...

Right now I have my male betta with Boesman Rainbow's, Neons and orange Von Flame's. He use to be with my Clown Loaches and Angelfish with no agression problems but he wasn't getting enough food because the loaches and angels are piggies.

You could add a female betta in there too
NOOOOOOOO, no females in there, they WILL kill each other. The only time to add a female would be if breeding and then as soon as the "deed" is done remove her.

Corys are great little fish to add to the tank, I do not know about the cardinals. I have corys and snails with my males and they are great. Just make sure whatever you add are not fin nippers. :D

So glad to hear you got him a bigger tank, just wait....his personality will come out and quickly make ya love to watch him. I have many fish...my male betta though, omg...their personalities just crack me up!!!
