Hey guys,
I was able to snap these shots of my eel attacking one of my apple snails. For some reason he has been attacking the snails for the past 2 or 3 days. He actually tries to pull them out of their shells and I've seen him push and pull them from one side of the tank to the other.
The bottom pic is the "get away from me or you are next." pic.

Ha ha I guess so. This eel has been alot less shy lately. I never knew eels develop quite a personality.

You should try feeding him pieces of snail....ZOOMED makes a canned product called 'CAN O' SNAILS". You can use these to feed him with, maybe he will leave your snails alone then! If you do get them, make sure you refridgerate them after opening. My fish love to eat these "delicacies". They also have canned crickets, caterpillars, meal worms, and grasshoppers. It is an excellent product and fortified with vitamins & minerals!!!

Maybe he's lonely. Looks like he's trying to mate with it :naughty:

Thanks jen. I'll give that a shot and see if it calms him a bit. :)

Ha ha. Yeah those pics make it look that way. I couldn't snap any pics in time of him actually biting and doing his little spin move.

Great fish. I've only had one fire eel in my life and it was not as young & frisky as yours when I got him. He'll be one kewl monster someday. Pic taken at the Shedd aquarium in Chicago.

Great... Now i know what to feed my future Fire Eel when I do get it. Been feeding my Peacock eel w/ worms but he's much smaller than Fire eel will get.

Thanks.
Man that is a big boy. Hopefully it will take while for mine to grow that big so I can buy a bigger tank! From what I have read, they aren't the fastest growers once they hit 20-24" or so.

Give em' some bloodworms, shrimp, live foods etc. on a regular basis and those red markings will come alive!

Well my Fire Eel decided to kill my blue crayfish after living peacefully for 4 months.I didn't think crayfish would be on the menu yet for an eel this small.

 I was originally pissed when my LMB ate my daters, perch, sunfish, etc. But now i love watching devouring everybody! I only feed him fatheads and shiners now though. Oh yeah, and ghost shrimp. They try and defenf themselves with their tiny little arms and then CHOMP gone!
