My almost-4year old daughter has her own tank now.
I built an bedpost with a fish tank in it some time ago, we were switching rooms with her and i didnt want to take the bedpost down so its hers now :)
The tank is pretty small, 140x20x20cm / 55x8x8".
She picked out some pink&white gravel and decorations from the tv-show Dora.
I bought a pair of rainbow cichlids for her tank today and i think they look great. Hopefully wil get some spawning soon.

they are cool fish. i got a male and he was constantly defending his territory against his reflection. it was hilarious to see him flare up at himself and attack the glass.
Cool tank. How many gallons is that tank? Very unique.

its around 50L / 15G. Pretty small but the footprint of the tank is pretty good for small fish since there is a good swimming space :)

I got the tank for free and decided to build the bedpost around it, or else i would have thrown it away :)
But she is likeing them, she wanted saltwater clowns thought (Nemo) but she is happy with those and named them Nemo and Nemo´s mom :confused: :grinno:

I dunno why, but this made me laugh. Alot. :ROFL:
Anyways, interesting tank. Rainbow Cichlids are great fish :) Only thing i would have changed is i would have gone biotopic - but i guess a 4 year old probably wouldnt appreciate that.
Anyways, an update woudl be nice - have they spawned yet?

well allright then, here is an update :)
we changed rooms with our daughter and took the bed post down. But i still have the pair. Kept them in my 200G for some time but gave them a tank of their own a few weeks ago and they have spawned twice since then but they keep eating the fry...
Just waiting for them to success in raising them :)

Cool. I always had an appreciation for Rainbow Cichlids, now i think I will get some soon.

I had rainbow cichlids a few years ago, and last time had a trio of f0 rainbows from Rapps that ended up dying. One of my very favorite CA cichlids...wish I had some, those in that tank remind me of what I love about that species

That is so sweet.... i love her set up and how you did the tank built in and have her name etc... also so cute she chose all the little things to go into the tank... just adorable,... and what an education for her.. and so much entertainment.. what a dad!!!:D:D:D and the update..incredible pics of those fry... rainbows are beauties..

that was unique what you did to her room, and the other small tank tucked in the corner, talk about starting them off young,,,those pictures of them breeding wow, and the fry survived on the filter?

yes the eggs/fry were ok on the filter.. i just lowered the power on it... they just got eaten by the pair after a week or so.

i sold the pair because im moving and need to get rid of some tanks...
then when i was about to empty the tank 2 days later i saw this:

Was that their first spawn that you know of? Mine breed for me once then I removed all the tankmates and they won't breed anymore! I've tried new tankmates and everything and I know for sure that I have a male and a female. Weird fish..
Amazing looking rainbows! I'm so tempted to get a pair of my own.

no this was spawn #3-4..
my daughter hasnt thought about them since i removed them from her room a few months ago :) the rainbows werent comfortable in that head board so i moved them to a bigger tank and got her 2 goldfish instead :)

those are beautiful rainbows! you could have some small comunity fish in there too.
my rainbow (like most) lives with some comunity and non comunity fish. they are great characters. mines pretty dull though. since i got her shes brightened up but still shes got nothing on yours! =P
