I am not a fan of nuchal humps but WHOA
if that fish ever dies (knock on wood) slice of the hump and weigh it. I am curious to see how heavy it is and how a fish can swim aroun with that thing on it's head

I have to agree with you. It seems so out of place.
I went to the phillipines a few months ago and took some pics of flowerhorns with huge kok's at a fishshow inside a mall.
Is it a philippine thing or something?

I got a 2.5" flowerhorn recently and I HOPE it doesn't develop a bowling ball on it's head. I like horns cause they have some cool colors but I just don't understand how bowling ball sized nuchal bumps are deemed attractive?
No disrespect to anyone who does. Definitely no flame intended.

Flowerhorn are considered by feng shui master as feng shui fish for the past year till the next more years to come... like the arowana in the past years.
the bigger the Nuchal hump (kok) the better as some feng shui master says that it represents wisdom... pearls for more fortune... red color for love / luck ... Plums (marking on the midline) sometimes show chinese characters resembling to luck, longlife and good fortune. ;)

INSANE head on that one
As with alot of Filipino delicacies, it's an acquired taste. When I first saw Asian Aros, or even a silver aro, it looked "weird", but as time went on, you develop a taste for it. So it is the same with any fish. Some like "koi" or carp looking fish, some love datniodes looking fish. I am sure that flowerhorn was prized as any of your fish collection.
I couldn't say it is a nice looking fish because I know nothing about flowerhorns :) To me, the medium sized hump, vivid colors, pearls, and flowerline is good enough, without the aggresion.

whoa! anlaki ng bukol!
i personally don't have the taste for big kok's but it's real cool!
I really like the colors on the fish... but his hump is too big for my tastes. :)

Though the owner of this FH is a very close friend, I still consider an FH with balanced attributes (overall balance of features ) still looks better. I'm not to keen on having FHs with monstrous koks. And just to add my personal observation, most fish with big koks normally have thin bodies. Maybe their koks prevent them from eating well.....considering that most FH food are floating pellets, maybe their koks get in the way in visually locating their food.

W:WHOA: W! that's one huge kok that grew a fish on it... hehehe... :D
hi sir neks! :)
it is mostly in their genes... feeds can only do so much. but high quality feeds can sometime do wonders! ;)
yup, it's all in the genes. also, you dont get a 100% probability that you'll get large kok fry if you pair a male & a female FHs with large koks. only a small percentage would come out with large koks.

I agree with FHManic about the FH having to strike a balance of physical attributes along with the right combination of colors and pearls to be my favorite. (read-koks too big)
