Would it be bad to feed raw chicken strips to a Pixie Frog? He's getting pretty big and Night Crawlers and Crickets don't seen to fill him up anymore. I don't want to feed him mice. Any other suggestions?

I wouldn use chicken in order to get the nutrition they need to eat th entire thing like organs, bones and skin. You could try roaches they are bigger or increase the amount of crickets and nightcrawlers.

I know you mentioned it...but feeding frozen (thawed) mice is going to be the most efficient and easy way to feed. Whats the reason for not wanting to? Its not gross at all...

I know it sounds lame, but I like all fuzzy animals and don't really want to feed a mouse to it. I was at Petco yesterday and saw the frozen mice and thought...as long as it's been killed for me, I can probably do it. They're expensive though...$5 for a frozen dead mouse!

If there's a specialty shop close by you can check to see if they sell chicks, chicken or quails.

$5 for a frozen mouse is way way to much, I would pay no more than $2. I"m guessing they all come in one size only since it's Petco?

So you think that cut pieces of raw chicken is ok? I saw your thread where you fed yours a whole baby chick, that's why I'm asking.

They had different sizes, but they were all $5 ea :screwy:

Get a price check. I worked at a petco for a few years part time and the freezer was always in disarray. Adult mice are like $1.30.

Ya I work at petco and the mice arent that expensive they are like $2 each and that is on the high end of a guess. But the freezers are always unorganized it seems like so check te price.

I also heard that feeding them fish is bad. Is that true?

It's fine just probably just not as much nutritions as a whole animal.

From what I gathered live or freshly killed fishes are ok but frozen fishes are not good in the long run. Something about Thiamine or thiamin.

Not only that:D First of for thouse that dont know thiamine its a enzime that bonds with vitamins of the complex B and degrades them, unabeling a animal that eats something that has it to absorve the B vitamins wich he needs. This causes the animal to became deficient in B vitamins , particulary biotine, wich is potencialy fatal. There´s more. First of this enzime greatly increases in frozen foods particulary fish and more if its oily. But also can be destroed or inacivated if we expose the desfrosted fish or mouse, rat ,etc to heat. That why its good to thaw feeders wich we are going to feed herps with, in water that is at least 80 F. We dont sufer the efects of this enzime because we cook food;) The other thing is that some foods are naturaly high on this enzime. One great example is gold fish, wich also gives credit to my theory that they are a very poor choise as feeders. Mosquitofish and minows are much healtier:D

Insects should be the main diet, and mice should ONLY be used as a treat... The mice are high in fat, but still contain calcium that could be usefull.

Well...finally tried mice. Don't worry...frozen mice. Takes a bit of work to defrost it, but looks like he can stuff in down and satisfy his appetite :D
