I will be filling the tank with water tomm and want to get a Lungfish with some other fish in there if possible. What would be my best choice for Lungfish and fish it "should" get along with and what are the best places to order them online? :)
Thanks in advance for the help (this forum has renwed my faith that it IS possible to keep a lung fish in my tank) :woot:

Ok after some brief reading it looks like Ill want to get the SA Lungfish and NOT the African one (which is what Ive seen sold at the LFS)
Something large and fast moving that the Lungfish won't eat for a while? Not sure how compatible they are with tankmates, but I would go for a nice sized school of red-hook Silver Dollars.. Maybe Tinfoil Barbs?

Amazingly enough one of the local fish stores was able to track down this little guy for me. Now I need to find him some tankmates

This lungfish is the smallest kind of lungfish, it grows up to 50 cm, and originated from Africa. Height and width are pretty small for its length. This species has a thick snout. Those larger than 30 cm often retain external gills. It has strong toothed plates. It also has a efficient spiral intestine with spiral valve, and a pair of large air bladders which function as lungs to allow this fish to breathe out of water. Protopterus amphibius comes to people to ask for food. It is a cute little fellow. This one shown on the screen is a larva ( 20 cm ) which still have large external gills. It looks like Upahlupeh. The name amphibius comes from amphibian. Neo agrees that this lungfish is more of an amphibian rather than a fish.

Do kid yourself into thinking anything will last with your lungfish for long. I've tried everything and eventually they all became fish food, expensive fish food. To date, mines eaten a full grown oscar, a couple of silver dollars, an Exodon tetra, and a couple bala sharks. I've decided he's going to be by hi,self from now on which is fine with him.
