I have a 100 foot by 50 foot by 9 foot deep pond and was wondering if an rtc, or tsn could live in it during the winter, and if not, why?

no, they are tropical fish and the cold winters would kill them

They are evolved for a tropical climate. If you have the means to heat the water during the winter to at least 72 f, then I say do it. Otherwise you are asking for your fish to die. If you knew you could retrive them during the winter than you could keep them in it during the summer and take them indoors during the winter.

It's a shame too b/c that would be one happy RTC during the summer.....

To be honest i think it would be pointless in something of that size youd never see it! Thats if it survives the cold.

I figured they wouldn't but i was in an arguement about it with one of my friends, so I thought that i would leave the deciding vote to the trusty mfk experts.

what would be the point of actually keeping a fish if you don't feed it
don't clean its tank and can't have a nice look at him once in a while

I keep many channels cats in their. The average size is about 6lbs. They come up to the top and eat fish food.

Exactly, i think big ponds are great! But you can go too big and ruin your fish.
