the last few days i havent seen my new 3inch ornate bichir, so i put some food in the tank and watched for about 30 minutes or so, what i saw i couldnt believe. my bichir is living in my rena smart heater. theres a hole at the top of it so you can hook it up to a filter . i use it as a stand alone. is this ok? i dont think he is being harmed by it but it makes me a little nervous. what do you guys think?:nilly:

I don'k think there's much to worry about really, those heaters don't have a heating coil like normal heaters. It's resin based so it'll probably never go over the temp of the water that it's heating. Think of it as a passive heater that stays on all the time where as the normal heaters wait till the temp goes down and then gets really rather hot to bring the temp back up to normal. I once had standard heaters and lost a 10" BGK and a 4" Senegalus to burns so I'll never use them again. Even with heater guards...

There won't be with those heaters. As i said, it's a passive heater and not an element heater so the temp of the unit never goes above the temp of the water. Well by no more than about 1c anyway..
