Hey everyone,
I notice that most topics have a thread for fish pics. Lets post pics of our hybrid catfish here for all to enjoy. We could use this thread to discuss them also. So lets keep this thread alive and post those pics. Doesn't matter what kind of catfish hybrid, so if you got it post a pic of it. Oh and can anyone get a rtc x marble hybrid? If so pm me please. I have 3 hybrid cats, and I am looking to add more.

Where are you in SoCal? I know of this one store that has one (last time I went which was about a month ago) in the Sherman Oaks area off on Ventura. I think it's called Sherman Oaks Aquatics. They were selling it for $35 for a 7"
I got mine up in Salinas when I was up there on an internship.

Thanks for the compliments, and pics guys. Nice to see others in the hobby have some of these amazing creatures. What other crosses does anyone have besides the rtc x tsn? As stated before I have 3 different hybrid cats, and I know of the channel x blue hybrid of north america, but are there others? Let's see lots of pics of them if you got them. I know I have seen pics of marble x rtc. Who's got them and where can I get one? Stotty That tail should look strange when older unless it gets damaged, looks like you got a pretty unique fish. Mine hase a piece of fin comming out of the top of one of his pec fins. I'll try to get a pic sometime. Beautiful cats everyone. Keep us updated.

how's this happen? are they test tube fishys? or do tsn and rtc actually mate
necrocanis
03-04-2006, 4:20 PM
They are more than likely test tube. I have heard rumors that they were bread as food fish, and that they were produced in labs in japan. Haven't heard or seen any proof of how they are actually made. I would imagine that like other hybrids they take sperm from the male of one species and inject the females of the other to make them come in to estrus to produce and release eggs. Once the eggs are released they fertilize them with the previously captured sperm of the other species. Hope that helps, but there is still much debate on these fish. Guess there's one way to find out. Try and make a hybrid yourself! lol. Tell us if you are successful!

That TSN X RTC mix is one awesome combo.
If only I had the tank space to spare.

Yeah, I can't really see how they are opposed to hybrids. I listed why I think that they are wrong in thier opposition somewhere in the catfish forum. Their arguments just don't make any sense to me. Oh, well, thanks for the great compliments. I love my hybrids and wouldn't give them up for any other fish.

To do that just click new reply in the bottom left hand corner of this forum. It should have a link bellow the message box that says manage attachements or add attachments. Click on that and click browse to search your computer for the pics you want and upload them. After that click to post reply and they should show up in this forum.

Great thread!!!
The RTC X TSN is one hybrid that I personally think looks better that its parents.

I have had a RTCxTSC for almost 10 months and it is only about 8-9" it eats fine and the water is good. if i had a pure RTC or a TSC for this long it would probably be much larger right? has anyone else experienced this? i have heard that this hybrid might actually be a dwarf, which is less common than hybrid turning out to be giants. Although it might just be my particular catfish.

Awesome cats you guys have

You may be right, but if you are then your hybrid will look totally different than ours. Hybrids are strange in that you have to cross the two different species according to their sex also in order to get the hybrid vigor you hear everyone talking about. I am almost certain that the female needs to be the dominant species of the 2. If you mix it the other way you get the total opposite effect. You get a dwarfed hybrid that is prone to desieses, and infection because it has a reduce immune system. If bred right it will be totally dominant with a strong immune system, and will grow to astonishing sizes at record speed. You must remember that will all animals rare genetic mutations happen in fish also, Like dwarfism, or albinoism. Hope this sheds a little light.
Just so that everyone knows I will be updating this thread very soon when I get my new internet connection up and running hopefully within a week. I look forward to showing my fish progress and my new updates to my pond.

Have you checked with George at Sharkaquarium for the planiceps? I asked him about a Planiceps and he said he could get them as I'm wanting one also, last time I talked to him was about 2 weeks ago and it was right before he was leaving to Venezuela on a trip so I'm going to email him again soon and see if he can get them sometime soon. I'll keep ya posted ~Trent
