So, I have a small sen bichir, in my 55 gallon tank and he seems to be always hiding, is this average for bichirs? Should i have put him in a grow out tank first? He isnt that much smaller that the other fish in the tank. The tank includes 2 gouramis (1 gold, 1 paradise) 3 cichlids (1 convict, 1 dempsey, 1 bellycrawler pike) 1 pleco, 1 silver dollar, and the Bichir. I havent seen any of the fish "picking on him" and most of the cichlids keep busy playing with each other to mess round with the other fish. So is this behaviour normal? Do i have an especially sissy bichir? I was told i can bring him back if he doesnt get along with his tankmates and possibly get a different one should i do this, or will he outgrow his hiding?

How long has he been in the tank? He may still be getting used to it.
My ornate is a shy fish, but my 2 sens are very active and almost never hide at all. They are all over the place, even the top most corners of the tank

hes been in the tank a few days now , about 2 days, should i give him more time? Or do you think he might just be a shy guy and if i dont like his personality i should get a different one?

if he's only been in there for 2 days he's probably still adjusting. just give him some time.

Hes about 3 inches long maybe 2 3/4 pretty small but so are the other fish in the tank, they are all slightly bigger than him but still none bigger than about 3 - 4 inches the biggest is my gold gourami.

Give him some time. Also watch him after the lights go out. He should be very hungry by now. Feed him special when the other fish are asleep . I believe their vision is extremely poor but they will find food if it is there. He will come out after he relaxes in his enviroment. They are very long lived fish and they will try their hardest to live in your tank.
