My Pirahnas are less than an inch long at this point. I want to do this the right way the first time if at all possible. I have 3 at this point in a 25 gallon tank, any tips on foods, nutrients etc. All will be appreciated. They are red bellied.

feed them fish fillets and market shrimp and carnivorous fish pellets. Tank size is definitely another important factor, look into a 75g for good piranha growth and behavior for 3 redbellies, long-term. Keep the tank temp at 80-85. Change 70-90% of the water once a week, and make sure you thoroughly vacuum the gravel in the process.

Don't feed your piranhas goldfish, ever. If you want to give them a treat, shell out some real cash and buy them some guppies or platies or tetras or barbs, something along those lines.

For a 75g, filter it with a AC500 or Emperor 400 filter. Don't bother with using carbon, that stuff is a worthless money-sink, just use a sponge or two.

More Pirahna? Shoal? Sorry not knowing......

He's saying if you get more piranhas, they will shoal together more. This will require a tank larger than 75g though. Its hardly necessary, if you're content with your 3 current fish.

Thanks for the info.....3 for now will do until I get more knowledgeable. Rather go slower so I get it right, it's been a long time since i had a tank and theres no sense in just killing fish til I get my stuff straight.

I currently have a Fluval 3 Plus underwater filter, good enough for 25 gal. I now see that 25 may be too small but it is all I can afford for now.

I feed all my fishes (including my old rhom) shrimp, live black worms, squid, chicken heart (I can't find beef heart), and occasional feeders (rarely though).
