Almost lost my male FH....Graphic...

He got almost his whole face ripped off by a RD....There was no fight, just one blow....He was floating for a couple days...I put him in a 50 with HEAVY filtration....I changed the water everyday, and fed way less...I dosed antibiotics in the beginning, and then nothing....He is almost all better!


Last pic is tonight...First pic was a couple weeks ago, the rest are about four days a part from the first day...Thanks for looking. I almost culled him...I am so glad I did not:headbang2

the rd looks like a beast.. i have seen my avatar do damage like that to other fishes faces.. its kind of hard to believe that a rd took a chunk out of another fishes face in 1 bite.. he must be a monster.. and i was thinking that the FH looked female too..

This was the female....She is gone now, and he lost his protection...they used to guard their nest at all costs and ruled any tank they were in...He took this blow from the RD that he used to chase ALL the time when he had his female. He was alone for less than a week before he was injured...

way to go bud. culling is a tricky thing. injuries like this are treatable, but sometimes its better to not let the fish suffer a slow painfull death. you made the right call and did a great time treating. did you salt the water too?

There is none..Bass are not agro, and he is WAY too big for the FH to mess with..My male RD that is a bit bigger than the FH (the one who bit his face off) destroys the bass...
