View Full Version : 250 lb Alligator gar
Underwater adventures at the Mall of America has a Huge 250lb Alligator Gar! It. swims over the top of the tunnel two feet from your head. I can't remember her name, I think it's muffin or something stupid. It would be seriously sweet if the MOA employees fed one of the screaming children at the aquarium to the huge gar. I would pay an extra dollar to see that! :headbang2
I will take some next time I go. I bought a year long pass, so I now have my own 2.1 million gallon aquarium. I just can't feed the fish or add my own cool additions.

I live about 2 hours from the new Georgia Aquarium. It is amazing, as they have millions and millions of gallons of water. I was a little dissappointed with the freshwater section though. They only had one large tank with a wide assortment of fish in it, a medium tank with a smaller assortment including oscars, etc, then about 8 small one-species tanks with things like piranhas, etc. All-in-all, it was still worth the money.

I can imagine the thread>>>
I have an orca in my ten gallon. Nitrates are high. Doing 20% water changes everyother week. Stupid fish keeps blowing water out of the tank. Can I keep an amazon sword with it? How about a couple of neon tetras? What should i do to keep the nitrates down?

I have to stop going to the aquarium on weekends. I TURN RED WHEN PEOPLE SAY LOOK AT THE SHARK! And it's a sturgeon. Maybe I should tell them that those "sharks" might live where they swim. Also, the screaming kids drive me nuts. I would make a terrible parent.

so um how big is the tank
That display is 210,000 gallons.
The dragons they had were weedy sea dragons. That pic is of a leafy sea dragon - not too often you see those in captivity.
Thanks for the help zoo. Do you go there frequently?

She's not as thick as she could be. These things gain a lot of weight when they get some girth to them.
We lost a 10' arapaima at DWA and it weighed in at 408 lbs.

I would love to visit other cities aquariums, but I have to do things like work. Also, with gas prices where they are right now, it would be cheaper to build my own public aquarium.

people hook em here with a whole chicken and some bottles to track them. they tire out easily. We caught an 7ft one day, took the hook out and let it go cause it was seriously strugleing. Then we caught an 8ft a few weeks later and kept it cause someone said they knew how to clean it. Will post the pics when I find em.
I used have a small family of them by a camp we went to. dont think the camp is there no more though. They have a serious lockness type gar in that area. When it rolls the top its almost like a whale. it has/had to be over 10' and pretty freakin fat too.
And they dont eat Alligators either, they just look like them
A WHOLE CHICKEN? Better be careful or you'll accidentally catch Kirstie Alley and she'll never let go of that chicken. I have never heard of trolling with KFC before.

so i know this is a really old thread, but i searched "underwater adventures" and this is what came up. I work there and the largest alligator gar is named Dana we feed her mackeral, herring, sometimes bonita. They truly are amazing. I am more of a saltwater girl and didn't really care too much about the alligator gar...until i started diving in that exhibit. Dana is seriously amazing. I will sit on the tunnel and have a staring contest and she will inch closer and closer to me. She gets really close and i am the one that has to back away from her. If you guys want to make a trip to the aquarium, i can let you help feed them...just pm me.

Unfortunately no gars though, let us know how that went
