ID on African

Picked this fish up for a couple of bucks for a display tank, not sure what it is though. i'm assuming it is a hybrid, but the breeder says it isn't...anyway here it is, hard to take good photos of it

Well, I suspect it is a hybrid, but the guy called it something like 'mendelsoni' which isn't the name of any cichlid I'm familiar with.

bump. Wanted to add, I've researched the name "mendelsoni" (what he called it) and can't find anything on a cichlid at all. Not sure why he would just invent a name that sounded like a scientific name instead of just some fancy trade name if it is a hybrid he sells
