so did i get good discus? i did alot of research here and dident go for just cheep. at least i dont think they where cheep im up to 8 discus and spent 590$ just for discus.they are from a local breeder here in western washington.they eat like crazy and are growing fast and seem to be happy.this is my first discus tank so any advice is welcome.tank specs are 180g weekly 50% h2o changes nitrite ,amonia at 0 nitrate under 10ppm and temp at 82. the only thing i dont like is that i cant get rid of the brown algae on the glass and plants i have to clean glass alot but i think its my well water.other than that all seems to be good. but ill let you be the judge. thanks

I wouldn't have the temp under 84 and bristlenose plecs will stop that algae.

the breeder i got the fish frome said 82 is fine as long as everyone is eating good but if they start not wanting to eat then increase temp.now the bristalenose pleco are they like the rest of plecos because i dident like the ones i have had in the past once they got big they turned into bullies with the rest of my fish.are there any other alge eaters that would work?

Great discus, I want some in my tank some day! Try some Siamese Algae Eaters (otocinclus) if you don't want any plecos.

Very pretty Discus. I got 4 Discus 2 months ago from a place called Rocky Mnt Discus and they've done awesome and gotten huge. I've got (hard) well water. The bristlenose I got from the same Discus breeder never has touched the black algae. It's not actually algae though, it's diatoms. It'll go away after 6 mo or so in a new tank. I keep mine at 82 also, they've pretty much doubled in size, or close to it.

Nice Discus.
You might want to check the phosphate level of your well water. High phosphate is one cause of the diatom algae. I had quite a bit in the beginning but the bigger my plants get the less I have to clean the diatom. They must be doing a good job of sucking up the extra phosphate.
