Here is a pic of my polleni from back in April. I used an older pic because he/she was darker back then, at the top of the pecking order in the aquarium. Now it is at the bottom of the heirarchy, and more faded. Thus, the older pic.

Thanks for the comments guys, hopefully he'll look that good again when I move him into another aquarium someday, my breeding pair of Caquetaia spectabiles have him hiding in his cave a lot. He does not appear to be beat up, just submissive.

Here are some pics of two Hemichromis frempongis I used to have. They are both dead now. I tried to put put the male (the bigger one with more red) in the female's aquarium back in October 2007, these are pictures taken back then. They squared off and did some fighting, I figured it was just a mating ritual. But the smaller female killed the male in a stunning turn of events. Months later, the female committed suicide (jumped out). So out of my group of 6 I had 0 left for a while. I got three little ones in June, they are growing nicely in my 150, and I'll post pics of them some other day. These pics aren't too good, but I guess frempongi pics aren't that common.

These two pics are of the fatal fight that killed the male. She didn't rip the male apart, I think she just probably damaged a vital organ on him, because I removed him after the fight because he was acting very sluggish, and he died a few days later.

The female was previously abused by the male when they were housed together, you can see her torn fins, they have grown back a lot in this pic.

had to use the flash for quick shots because it is hard to get all 5 in 1 picture. It sort of washes the green out a bit when you do but enjoy:)

Got 6 Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi in the mail today. Well,, actually 5. One made it doa. Drip acclimated them and set them loose in a 29. Hopefully won't be anymore losses. Have one "big" male who's going to be very nice looking once he's no longer stressed.

WHAT are those ones with the red tipped tail? They remind me of a marine fish I saw snorkeling once.

Paretroplus maculatus (2 1/2 inches) and Ptychochromis grandidieri (1 1/2 to 2 inches). I promise they aren't as cramped as the pics make it seem...they huddle. The tank is a 75 gallon, with 11 fish.

To be honest, I'm not sure. I've been told the growth rate is slow, but also heard that they will surprise me with how fast they grow. Guess we'll have to see!

due to the raging controversy, I shall henceforth refer to them as Paratilapia...

These are my mated pair, Barney Rubble (left) and Black Betty (right.) I got them in 2006 as freshly paired off from their fry group. They were the first to pair off. They are currently proud parents, on their third clutch of eggs. 1st eggs - eaten. 2nd set - fry were eaten. Third time was a charm since I removed the fry 4 days after hatching to avoid their becoming dinner. Some remained in the parents' tank and are still alive. Mom attacked my siphon tube when I was removing her babies! The rest are safe in a fry tank - around 100 fish in all!
