my new 125g tank has only been running for about a day and a half. no fish are in there now, because i noticed how cloudy the water got so i didn't add them. is it ok for the water to be cloudy? is the aqua clear filter the issue or bacteria?:nilly:

give more specifics. if there is only an aquaclear on the tank then its underfiltered. did you rinse out your gravel before putting it in your tank?

yeah i rinsed everything. i have an AC110 on there now and i was planning on putting the AC 30 or something else on the tank. i tested the water with the API test and it read 0ppm.

You'll probably find that an AC30 won't fit on the tank. If you just started the tank, it hasn't cycled yet.

so should i just wait it out then and keep it running as it is?

Check it tomorrow morn to see if it settled, because It doesnt sound like a bacteria bloom, if there is no ammonia. My guess is the either the inserts for the AC110 still had some residue on them or the gravel did. If so, then it should settle.

If you didn't rinse the biomax for the filter, that's your problem. They have a lot of dust that gets washed into the tank on initial startup.

You can do a big water change to help out but it should clear up after a few days at the most I would think. Also, another filter is a good idea.

it started to look a little clearer this morning. should i go ahead and add my fish or wait a while? will the water changes hurt the cycling at all?

If you just set the tank up yesterday then it's not anywhere near cycled and that's something you should (ideally) do before adding any fish. Look up 'fishless cycling'. But like the others said-I believe you'll find an AC 110 even with an AC 30 won't be enough filtration. Unless you're going to be stocking with guppies :-)

Forget the AC30, I don't think it would fit over the 125G's rim anyway.

Add atleast 1 more AC110, 3 AC110's would be ideal.

I have had fantastic results with DrTims Nitrifying Bacteria at startup, its a little exspensive but worth it.

I started my 150 gallon with it and my 22 gallon with it. I added the fish on the day I added it to the tank water, 48hrs later did a small 25% water change and things have been running well.

When I used it on my 22-gallon, I added 50 cardinal tetras on that day, lost only 8 of them, the rest have been alive and well for many weeks, using a single AC110 set on LOW on the 22-gallon tank, just foam block, and double the bio-max, no carbon.

I get to hear this alot every day I work, and I keep telling people the same thing. Your tank is going to cloud up the first couple of days to a week then one day you'll look at it and any fish that are in there will look like they're floating in thin air due to how clear it will suddenly become. Just be patient!

Definitely put at least another AC 110 on your tank. Any idea on why those are only 45 and the others are near 80?

notice the code number prefixes "CD-120311" and "YL-120311"
"YL" prefix puts it on sale...
That is the lowest price sale code...
When shopping at DrsFosterandSmith.com, always check the Prefix first. If it's not "YL" enter the number in the search bar with the "YL" prefix. It will come up in the new window with the lowest price available... It works on all the items, I have tried.

You have actually ordered stuff like this and they dont ask any questions or give you any problems?

I had a similar issue with my AC 110. this is after the cycling. it just won't pick up the fine things in the water.

I just put Filter Floss under the White Block Sponge and 2 days later it was Crystal clear.

But wait it out as your tank is probably not fully cycled.

1. The Foster/Smith code works, I just got a $45 AC110.
2. You must rinse the BioMax extremely well else the water will cloud.
3. Do not even think about fish yet, a day isn't even close to cycled unless you put a filter from a another tank on it along with some water from a cycled tank.
4. I agree you need at least another AC110, 1 isn't enough. Also a powerhead with airline is recommended.

Another good idea is to remove the carbon bag if you are using it.
