Those guys are tiny. Good luck with them
I wonder if that stripeless might be a Notopterus Notopterus. It might be too soon to tell though. If so, they're the smaller of the Notopterus species maxing out at about 2ft, but I believe they are also the most aggressive out of all the species as well.

Royals have a spot-like stripe pattern. I've never seen them for sale less than 6" though. And by then, their patterns are pretty pronounce so you can tell. At 4"...that's a bit tough. The other thing I've noticed about Royals are the fact that they are more silver body whereas a regular Clown is more of a grayish green tone.

at 4" clowns have a pretty disticnt spot pattern. check out the last pic you can clearly see spots.. they are hard to differentiate at that size though somtimes

Well the the guy who owns my LFS knows alot about fish. I mean i hear alot about how people go to there LFS and the people there don't know anything about fish. I wish every town had a fish store guy like i do. I trust him more then i would trust my own mother. He gets alot of his fish as baby's. Like i got a betta from him that wasn't no bigger then 1"

I found the spots on the guy in question. Must have just been the lighting. He's a clown
