Discus Tank

What is the most discus i can put in a 80g tank? All the discus i have in them right now are 2-3inches

i wouldnt worry about it until a while down the road, wait until they pair off before you get rid of any, theyll be four or five inches then and you can tell which ones you do or dont want anyways.

The number of discus in any size tank is 100% totally dependant upon your water changes and filtration. A good biological filter is key to a healthy discus tank...large and frequent water changes is an even bigger key. In your signature, I count 11 discus in the 80 gallon. Thats number is just fine. About average stocking I would say for most people anyways. You could keep say 50 discus in the same size tank, but you would have to increase your water changes to a daily basis and very large (75%+) and increase your biological filtration significantly. But for your tank, 11 discus is just fine, even when they get to full size.

Beauty is not always what it may seem angelfish carry well (angerlfish disease)
if by cahnce a discus get it .. theres no turning back..i also recomend try making your own discus foods from time to time it's GREAT for them ..if u like i could hook you up with a geat one

Sure what ingredients do you use? I usually feed them live bloodworms and some times frozen blood worms when i run out of the live.

Beef Heart is the base used mostly, but you can use substitutes for it such as eye of round beef (NOT round steak) if you cant find any. Shrimp, cod, or other types of seafood/non-oily fish are also mixed in to ensure sufficient protein and lipid levels. Mixed in with this can be spirulina powder, vitamins, flake food, granular fish food, brineshrimp, or almost any other kind of fish food. All of it is ground up and frozen and fed as a staple food.

yah discus, among other fish(all of mine) love beefheart. i blend the beefheart, boiled egg, peeled shrimp, krill, garlic powder, fish flakes, tubifex, bloodworks, brine shrimp, and some other stuff but i forget until theres very small or no chunks left. anyways after you mix it all together, mix it with knox gelatin until you get a heavy-glue texture and freeze but make sure you have either a mold or some way to make small pieces because its hard to break apart when frozen. i feed my fish beefheart every other day and give them other flakes and whatnot in between.

Sounds good. Do you put vitamins? Where do you get the Garlic powder from and what does it do? If i do decid on making my own discus food, how will i know how much (beefheart,shrimp, garlic powder, flakes, etc...) to put in the blender?
