I took a common pleco from my neighbor who had him in a 10 gallon tank for a year, hes about 5 inches long. I know they get bigger than this but i dont know there growth rate, or if there size would be stuned if in a tank to small for them.

He is now in my 65 gal tank with my oscar and doing well

its possible it has stunted growth, a lot of people think that growth is stunted by the size of the tank but, the truth is that it is waste in the water that stunts the growth. For instance your fish can grow very big in a small tank as long as the filtration and water changes are high enough to keep waste levels down. I fear it may already be to o late for your poor fellow, unless of course your friend was really good at keeping his tank clean... Good news that he is doing well tho
