i just brought a fresh water archer fish are the predomintly fresh water or brackish.

I am going to guess brackish because they are quite popular with the local fish shops, but again, a picture or even a description would help.

As said, depends on the species. You'll find most will tolerate brackish conditions, but there are definite brackish and definite freshwater species.

The most common is Toxotes jaculatrix, which is a brackish species and should be treated as such.
