Got it on Friday night, had a few problems with a tank mate to start with.
It's a small orange parrot fish that wouldn't stop growing and it was eating everything i put in the tank for the Arow. I set up a convict iso tank for it.
The arow is swimming on patrol nd seems happy.
I tried feeder sticks, it tried them and spat them out, i tried market shrimp, it tried them and spat it out.
It's used to small river shrimp and live crickets, so i bought some small river shrimp for now.
I will starve it to eat sticks and market shrimp when it's settled in more. It hunting the small shrimp most of the time.
My camera skills aren't too good, I have a reasonable camera but in darkness the light from the tank is not enough. Any tips welcome.
Regarding the banjar reds, i'm already happy i didn't buy one, this fish was only 100$US more than the red i was thining about. 300$US.
One other thing, the guy in the shop told me to keep the lights on 24/7 to help it's colours come out for the next few months.
It's chipped and i have a cert.
comments welcome, I'm in the Arow club!!:headbang2

Good on you ^^ definitely a good decision to get an RTG instead of the banja red. I would not recommend to live light on 24/7.

In another thread someone said "we may as well just sedate ourselves and stare at the fish all day to notice minute changes in behavior."
Sounds like heaven.
I can't stop watching it, the way they swim is outstanding. It sees a shrimp on the other side of the tank and turns into a missle to catch it.
Out standing!
glad you got the RTG instead

2 month update, my RTG now eats about one and a hlaf M.Shrip per day with a pellet stuck in every piece fead to it.
It's getting bigger by the day.
In the first photos it's very difficult to see and hard for me to take a good picture but a white mark has appeared. It it the scale directly behind it's head plate, The fist scale on its back (spine). No cut just whiteish. The scale is still there. One of my tubes was out when i got home so i figure it jumped and hit the hood. (tempremental tubes)
swiming normally though and eating like a pig.
Any need to worry?

couple of parrots, The big one was bumping into the aro a lot to start with. I used these parrots to start the cycling process because they are as tough as nails.
I took them out for about a 3 weeks or so to let the aro get used to it's home.
When i reintroduced them the aro acted strangly as in agressively.
There is now a pecking order and the aro is on the top of it. It gets skitish from time to time but i've not seen it jump. I am presuming the mark on its head is from a bump on the canopy. It's less white today.
I also posted a full picutre of my tank, nice and simple.

It seems to be getting more skittish the bigger it gets.
When i syphon the canopy is off but I'm above the tank and it stays low. When I'm pumping water back in the canopy in on and i use a powerfull pump.
It goes mental when i clean the outside of the glass though. It really does not like that!!

If you water parameters are OK, there should not be any problem. Clean the glass more often. I know it is painful to see it dart around, but if you let it, it will be worse when it gets bigger. That is why i don't have any decoration in my tank.
Surprising though, during feeding time does it beg for food?? My young silvers beg for food, but still quite skittish if they are surprised. I hope one day they will be indifferent like my friend's one (pretty old and HUGE one too)

I know its probably not the best idea, but all the aro's I have been rough on are the least skittish. Touching, hand feeding, daily tank cleanings seem to get them used to all the action. My lei is even coming around now after hand feeding and touching him while in the tank. Now he seems to challenge my hand when I do WC's. Its all fun and games until he's 30"ish. Hahaha

it doesn't get skitish when i clean the inside of the glass, it's fine then.
It's when i clean the outside with windowlean!!!
It's of shrip now for a while and on crickets, which i'm feeding Hikari aro sticks to, so it'll get the sticks some how!!
I can get a great veriation of foods here, I've started a cricket farm and I can buy super worms as well.
I gave the Mshrimp a break because of the chemicals used for farming them.

The first pictures are about 2 months ago, just before i paniced about a small scratch on my fishes head. My picture taking is getting better but my camera isn't up to it I think. I have to use flash and It doesn't pick up the gold too well.

The luckiest fish alive. This Chitlid was a feeder four months ago. It eats like a pig. You can't see it in this photo but it has a nasty hole in it's nose where the aro has bitten it.

Did you feed it super worms yet? If you didnt, dont do it, they get addicted to it and wont take anything else. And the guy at the shop is half right about the lighting. It AFFECTS their colour, it doesnt really help bring it out, its just if your aro is in a darker environment, itll gradually go into a darker shade while if you leave the light on, itll give it a lighter shade, its a nice aro tho.

I rotate 3 food types, chrickets, market shrimp and super worm. it gets bored of all three after a while and enjoys the introduction of the 3rd food source. (if you undersatand that.)
The guy at what shop? you mean the guy I bought it off who said never switch the lights off? I leave one light on at night. both in the day but it's next to a window as well so it get lots of natural sunlight.
i'm gonig to look for brighter lights soon, I'm sure the bulbs I got from the tank maker are pony.
You can't see the gold because I paid $400 dollars for a pony kodak camera when i went from SLR to digi. I've got an excellent SLR will detachable lenses, I used to take good pictures with it. I don't know what I was thinking when i bought my Digi camera.
It's pooh.

How the heck did you get your asian on crickets, shrimps, and superworms all at the same time? Damn you're lucky. I fed my chili reds superworms and they wouldn't eat anything else even though they were on pellets and market shrimp the day before i fed superworms. Tried it with 3 different chili reds, and they all had the same result. In the end, i had to starve it to get it back on market shrimp and pellets and i stopped feeding superworms lol.

Individual fhishes. mine will not eat pellets. Evem when I hide them in shrimp, it spits them out.
I don't know how i did it, my fish likes live food but after not eating market shrimp for a month it goes mad for it.
I cut it up into bite size pieces and throw it in......gone.
I just fed it a full shrimp (in pieces of course) and tried to give it a few SWs, it ignored them. it's full!

Thanks, its got LPJ which is starting to show now it's getting bigger, but I can live with that. I think it's compensated buy the fish's fins, its pectoral fins are getting long and I love the iridescent blue in it's tail.
I'm confused about meal / super worm. They're yellow and white and look like caterpillars. They're about 3in long. My fish goes mad for them, it won't eat well for about 3 days after i stop feeding them to it. Hunger soon wins over though.

but SW can also cause protruding anus problem to my asian arowana, good thing is that he is doing fine now since i stopped feeding him SW and instead i give him MP and feeder fish (quarantined).
try giving him MP or bullfrog, btw bullfrog is really good food for asian arowanas it can really pump the body mass of asian arowanas.. it would definately make your RTG fat.

The staple is market shrimp, I try to give it that more than the other 2 food types.
It won't get any SW for at least a month now, its been on them for the last 2 weeks with crickets as well.

That's as cheap as they are here, currently it's one Canadian Dollar to 28.****Thai Baht. So it's about the same as it would cost you here. Sounds like a bargain to me, I know they're still expensive here but compared to the U.K they're cheap, from prices I've seen quoted before they're cheaper here than Canada so I'd say if you've got the money and a big enough tank to put it in buy it.
