My LFS got some 12in BGK's in and were selling them for only $14.99. Usually I see little ones going for $14 to $20 depending on the store. Now it's kind of to good to be true to find them that big for that cheep IMO. You guys think that there might be a catch, like they might be sick or something. Or do you think that they might just be trying to get rid of them. They all seem fine and eat. You guys think I should go for it and quarintine, or hold off and get a smaller one.

Wow i live in San Diego and it took me a long time to find a big one! Finally i bought the ghost in the display tank about 12 inches for 75 bucks! I am very happy with him, he has a huge head and looks like a freshwater dolphin! No doubt one of the coolest fishes on earth! Would love to get another ghost over 1 foot, will pay shipping Howie

WOW!!! Great deal!!! I just bought my 2nd BGK yesterday at what I thought was a good deal... 8 1/2 inches for $24.00.... buy 'em they're worth every dollar!
Large ghost knives will fight in a wholesale environment, so the wholesaler likely drasticially reduced the price because they were killing each other off. Wholesalers won't take the time or effort to seperate and isolate them, as it takes away from tankspace and it's easier for them just to liquidate and break even..
Great Deal, Jump on it.. If I imported them at that size, id be charging around $60-80 for resale online. Been trying to get them that size for a while, too. If you know how to ship fish, I will buy any that they have left. :)

When I went to get one they were all gone. I asked the owner what happend to them and he said some guy came in and bought them all. I was pretty pissed but thats what I get for not jumping on them. If would I would have known that lots of people wanted them I would of got a few and sold em. They had 14 in a 40gl and the guy bought all of them.
ALL of them?!? Jeeeez.. Sounds fishy to me. Are you in good standing with that LFS, or could he be feeding you a line? If some fool actually bought that many, I sure hope he has alot of tankspace, because they would probably fight amongst themselves and kill each other off.. Gymnotus do NOT like other Gymnotus.

Yeah I know the the owner really well and my freind works their as well. I have been to the the owners house several times and bought fish from him before as he breeds several different types of discus out of his house and brings them to the store and sells them. He has also given me free fish on several occasions before so I believe him.
The owner thinks that this guy who bought all of the bgk's sells fish. He said that this particular guy has bought tanks full of fish on several occasions. Plus I have seen this guy myself and he is in like once a week at the store to see what they get in.
