Recommend me a nice floating plant.

Do you have pics of your tank setup? Please check the laws first before trying to look for plants you want. Some plants can be invasive and may be illegal in SoCal.

Seems water hyacinths and water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) are invasive species therefore illegal in SoCal. I was going to recommend these ones due to their undemanding requirements. Check for Nymphaea lotus.

Great looking tank love the driftwood try frogbit which sends long roots into the water or water sprite .

With Frogbit roots would extend about 4/5 inches into the water and thick . You have good lighting so it will grow big but easy enough to discard big plants if you prefer small as it reproduces fast .

IMO avoid azolla and duck weed . They are great for feeding Goldfish and fish that eat them but don't add anything to the look of the tank and just look like a flat layer of green that cover's your tank surface.

what are these little things on top of my water? are these frogbits?

They came with my anubias that i picked up from another member on here, and i really like how they look.

Will they get any bigger?

Duckweeds (Lemna minor). You have cichlids that may eat them although if they start proliferating beyond your control, then you need to remove them quickly.

Duckweed looks cool, I want some. I never see them in pet stores around here..
