I have a 29gal tank w/ a rope and royal pleco (soon to go b/c lfs is stupid) and i was wanting either a school of smaller fish, maybe 5, that wont fit in rope's mouth lol or a pair that would do well in a 29gal. i would like to breed something just for fun and dont want to do much work on the fry since they will most likely be eaten by rope anyway...is there anything like this?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

do you think they could guard their nest against the rope for long enough atleast to hatch the fry?

Question is will your rope fish be able to hide from the mean AXX convicts when they spawn, dont under estimate convicts =]

Convicts are very protective over fry, mine will bite my hand when I put my hand in their tank....the male attacks the glass :screwy::screwy:

if you went somewhere you didn't belong and you got attacked by a psycho man and woman would you keep going back or just stay away
anyway just trying to cut a joke and tell you that they won't bother him unless he bothers them and when he leaves their area they will stay

not as long as his rock aint where they choose to to spawn, just get them a clay pot and they will be just fine, like my two are

They maybe fine until the fry are free swimming and dad takes them for a tour of the tank. That rope will end up outside the tank. I have a breeding pair in the pond and when they are protecting fry dad at about 2-3 inches will back off 4 inch green terrors and a nine inch oscar. Don't underestimate their viciousness.

i wish you were close by i have 2 awesome pair for sale now but you should be able to get them anywhere, hell even walmart has them here and as for your tank just put the pot all the way to the opposite side of the tank from the black slate and you should be fine

ok cool, i have been reading up on GBRs and are cons like that when it comes to pairing up? or will they pretty much pair up if there is a male and female in the tank?

cons will spawn with anything all you need is a male and a female oh yeah and water.
i have yet to see when cons that will not spawn, they are not picky about mates. no need to buy a bunch of them, the breeding pair will kill every one else.
