Well nothing likes to be handled but you can handle them every now and then. I would leave it alone for the first week before you try holding it. Let it get use to you and it's new home first.

Nice pick up. As stated handling is OK but to an extenct. Also, almost all Leos are CB unless you pay a lot and pay for the WC ones that are extremly rare. Just an FYI.

They are an awesome pet reptile. They do pretty well with handling, but I'd wait till it's a little bigger to handle it too much. At 2", they are somewhat fragile. Once a little bigger, they are safer to handle

$18 isn't too bad, I paid $25/piece for 4" and I figured that was a good price.

Yea 18 dollars is a steal. I can never find them under 25.

Btw, the majority of the leopard geckos you find in pet shops are female.

Are you getting the leopard gecko from petco?

I noticed they have a sale on them for $17.99 right now.

Places like Petco and Petsmart this is true. But if you go to local reptile stores like I have one down the block is where I found my male.

How was the humidity over 100%? You do realize it would then be raining inside the tank right?

Vicious_Fish

If you go to the petsmart near me it's an almost guarantee that you'll come across a dead or dieing leopard gecko. Most of the time they are just hatched and probably haven't even eaten yet and are usually very dehydrated. Buy from private breeders and reptile shows please!

Good to say that geckos dont enjoy much handle... and they can do autotomy like any other gecko. But if you do that carefully it can be safe.
Good luck with your new baby!

Use a heat lamp to heat the cage, and that will drop the humiidity, plus using an aquarium with screen lid, or if you're going with a rack, make lots of air holes.

The geckos at the petco near me are decently looking, and they have a male that is not normal. maybe chocolate albino? I dont' know.

I was going to say, make sure you look at it carefully since they typically keep their geckos on sand, be sure they're using a feeding dish, cags is clean etc...

best of luck with the new gecko snakeheader

The cages at my petco all look great actually. They do a decent job.Im heating the tank with a 50wat daytime bulb and i have a screened hood but the humidity is still at around 40-45 I have him on vitasand.Heat in the day is around 85 and at night around 70-75.What else do I need,i have a good water dish a humid hide and of course his feeding dish

Cohazard
10-15-2008, 8:27 PM
maybe a small fan to air out the tank haha

I'm surprised your humidity is so high with a bulb that strong.

snakeheader
10-15-2008, 8:31 PM
i know but i figured i try it to help keep the humidity down but no success

snakeheader
10-15-2008, 8:33 PM
although it has been really rainy out here i may also try moving him away from my 55

Cohazard
10-15-2008, 8:36 PM
what size tank is it? maybe your water dish is too close to the heat source?

Yeah could be in the increased humidity from the rain. I'm a noob too, just trying to help.

snakeheader
10-15-2008, 8:42 PM
Thats what I was thinking. We have like freakin 90% humidity everyday haha

Cohazard
10-15-2008, 8:45 PM
oh hahah yeah if ambient humidity in your room is 90% (wow that's crazy!) then I could see a lamp only being able to bring it down in half.

snakeheader
10-15-2008, 8:47 PM
my room is actually about 80 right now but a big part of that is the tanks to,one good thing is my tree frogs love it lol
