so sad to see those oscars in there like that!
it is sad, but it happens everyday.
Walk into any petco, any cichlid they have will require a "Large" tank of 30+ gallons...
It's no wonder at all people have no idea.

makes me smile to think that the 5 oscars that i have in my 1200 with friends came from 3 in a 75, 2 in seperate 30's. now there in an 8x8, hence the signature. bout to pick up a 12-14" black pacu out of a 55.

i cant tell you how many people i have talked out of buying monster fish when theyre there to buy fish for their childs ten gallon.like pacus-only 2.99 and the size of a quarter.........if people only knew about the size a pacu gets.even oscars.the regularly seen and available fish i see in the big stores are pacu, oscars, jack dempseys, red devils, green terrors and reds, gars etc.some of those may stay small if theyre stunted in a small tank but most will keep growing to the point that people just dump em in the local pond/lake/river etc after most fish stores say they dont want them.sad-thats yet another reason i dont like chain fish stores.even the employees are clueless.

for the ammount of oscars you seen in EVERY lfs, there is no way that there are that many people with large tanks to care for them. I think about it everytime i see 30 babies in the petstore... I bet theres only a couple hundred tanks in the city big enough to house them properly, but they sell like crazy lol

Been there done that. I started fishkeeping with 4 baby O's in a 30 gallon tank because the guy at pet"something" said it'd be fine. After going online and saying oops they moved to my first large tank. The people that have those fish probably aren't to blame. As clear as their water is they obviously put the time & effort into that tank to take care of those fish. I'd imagine the blame lies with the guy that told them it was fine.

Not to mention the tank is not centered on the stand very well

Exactly what I said. All those pet stores.... I don't know where they got their information, but those kids working there know absolutely nothing. And they pass on their lack of experience to other people...
Can't tell you how many times i've seen a kid walk out with a fish bowl and a "nemo"...

Yep, people come into the LFS I work at and ask what's the smallest tank I can keep a "nemo" in. I tell them to not even bother setting up a saltwater tank that is less than 55g. I'm no saltwater expert, but I know enough about it to know that small tanks take the most skill. My friends wife works at Petco and she said when the Nemo movie came out everyone would come up to her asking them for a "nemo" and have a bowl under their arm. But she's very knowledgable about things and wouldn't let them, I'm sure other places it was allowed to happen tho.

those poor oscars.. some people truly are clueless.
Heh, I've been doing SW for a long, long time... Small tanks are more of a hassle, but not that bad when you get in the swing of things...
I quit SW because It's so stressful... There was never a day I wasn't worried about some stupid SPS colony I paid over $100 for and is the size of a freaking candy corn...
Too much of a pain, there's no time to enjoy.
Haha I saw a guy selling a 55 gallon with stand for a few hundred $; the stand it was on was for a 3 foot tank.
The saddest, most shocking, (and a little funny) thing I've ever saw on craigslist is 2 Nemo's and a Dory in a 2.5 gallon.
Another one.

We should all flood the oscar guys email saying we want to buy his tank and then set up appointments to come and see it and not show up, that would show that worthless piece of $hit
