Go with a Silver arowana or a Redtail Catfish and then just tell everyone it's a growout tank.

Or do some research and find out what kind of fish belong in a 29g tank. Asking questions here can be good, but as you can see from my idiotic reply above, the answers you get may not be necessarily accurate.

small crenicichla. compressiceps or regani? i believe a 29 with a bunch of pvc would make for a great little breeding tank! pikes are such interesting curious fish. i think you would really enjoy them if given the chance!

if you want personality just get a pair of rainbow cichlids.

ok, minus the obvious joke reply. REALLY? Cyps in a 30? Yes there length may not be an issue, but have you ever watched one swim? Plus they are schoolers. 55g min, they get real cool at 75g.

Red bellies can (theoretically) get 12", I've seen lot and lots that are 10". If you have ever seen one you can say they have a good amount of body mass, that's a lot of waste. Don't use it as a grow out, get something that you can house for life. It's not fair for the fish.

and so you don't get the wrong idea, DWARF crenichlia should be emphasized if you decide to go that route
