I am planning to upgrade my 55g to 100g soon. I cannot find any discus tank with sand bottom picture. Please post if you have one.

Thank you in advance.

I've seen some nice photos of sand bottom discus tanks in the simply discus photo section, but I think you need to be a member of the website to view pictures not in the sponsor section.

Sand has a great look. You need to be careful of compaction, where the sand becomes unable to absorb oxygen, a couple Jurupari's will keep it turned over for you.

You can see mine here. It's a few months old though. Plants have really grow since then.

Really nice set up. Is it straight sand or is there a layer(s) of material(can't think of the word) in there for plant growth?

Wow, that is a beatiful tank that you have there. Is that a bow front tank? Do you have any problem with the sand compaction so far? Your set up looks so natural and more like their environment. Do you mind if you can take a close up picture of your tank?

Thank you again for all feedbacks from you guys.

Thanks
Westie it's just straight sand. I did a bit of trial and error to get some really easy plants.
Newe70 it has a very slight bow in the front. Probably why it was listed as a 76 gal and not a 75. The sand is full of MTS to keep it moving. I love them. They really keep the sand clean. I usually just skim the top with the vaccum and then rake it with my fingers to keep it mixed, release any gas. This helps because the smaller sand sinks and you get the larger sand and pebbles on top. Just rake it a little and it looks great again. I'm at the office today but will be working from home on Monday and I'll get some close ups and more recent picks for you.

i have run sand for quite some time on many tanks and have never had a compaction issue. as long as you have good water movement and stir it every so often should be fine

nice tank, to grow out my discus, I keep them in a bare bottom, with just some driftwood.
When upgrade the tank, I plan to make some like this, not planted, but with some plants.

Here's some newer pictures but they didn't really come out very nice. I tried with the flash and without. You can still see what it looks like with sand but my sand is lighter than it looks in the pictures.

Hello Fallen,

Thank you for those pictures. Your tank is awesome...I am leaning to the sand bottom now after I saw your tank. As the matter of facts, I am in a process looking for a 100 - 120 gallons tank now. I noticted that you have a Jebo tank. How is the built quality wise of your tank? Do you mind to share where you purchased your tank from?

Thanks.

Hi Newe70,

It was given to me but it was bought at a local LFS chain here in Canada. The tank is great. I love the rounded corners. Gives it a more modern look. You could probably find a local reseller at the Jebo site. You can also see some of the larger tanks they have. Same style.

Ohh I do have one complaint about this tank though. The canopy comes with
3 x T8s for lighting. I can't find any T8s higher than 40 watts. This gives me about 1.6 watts per gallon. Pretty low lighting for a planted tank. But not as dark as it looks in the pictures. That's just a bad photographer

I love your tank. Here is my Jebo discus/angelfish tank. I do not have sand but have gravel and it's pretty natural too.

The orange one is a Marlboro Red.

Beautiful tank. It looks huge.

That is a nice looking tank that you have there and very natural looking too. Yes, they are Marlboro Red discus and very huge. I have them for over two years now. All of them will be soon moving into a brand new home and bigger home soon...

I just picked up 2 50 lbs play sand bags at Home Depot this past weekend. I took me almost 3 hours to rinse two bags, very dirty and muddy sand. Hopefully, it will not cause too much of cloudy when I transfer into my new 125g tank.

I am going to have two Jebo (838) canister filters with the water output rate @ 315 gph, 1 30g Whisper filter, 1 60g Whisper filter, and may be 1 power-head for my new tank. Is this an adequate set up system?

Thanks
