I thought almost everyone already knew this loach. Her name is Marge and owned by Emma Turner who owns Maidenhead Aquatics in Peterborough, UK.

Thats a monster loach. I had heard they reach 12 inch but never seen a really big one. Too bad this ones colors are faded. Big loach though, I'd love to be able to see it in person and see how it moves around.

I saw a show on Nova about how they are over fishing the amazon. These local fisherman were catching clown loaches about 16-18 inches long and saying that a couple years ago they were catching them twice that size!

If it was a show about the amazon, there shouldnt have been clown loaches. Maybe a show about sumatra, but not the amazon

No, she isn't. Emma Turner recorded the size as 11.5 inches in Loaches Online forum where she moderates.

Eww. I'd rather have 6 6-7" loaches then 1 11.5" loach, especially if it turns out to be as faded and ugly as the one in the pic. :yuck:

Or Borneo? Most of the Clown Loaches I have seen for sale have the Borneo markings.

Big clown loach for sale usually comes from Borneo. It is difficult to obtain wild caught big clown from sumatera.

The biggest I ever had was 28 cm

I would trade some of my 6" loaches for a 12" loach. :naughty:

I have seen a difference between the male and female colors. The females usually seem to be a little more faded when they get over the 6-8" mark.

It's her house, Steve. Join her forum and get to know her and her husband better there. They hold random loach meets in their shop so don't miss the opportunity to respond in a thread dedicated to such meets. Usually, after the store tour, she makes her time to let them tour her house where Marge resides. They'll be more than glad to entertain you. Emma is a very active member there so contacting her is not a problem but she tends to busy herself in her shop.

Clowns are found in two areas, Borneo and Sumatra.

Would feeding the loaches krill stop the color fading as they get older? Imagine a 12 inch clown loach with its full, bright colors!

Foods with high beta carotene such as carrots certainly will help but remember that the colors fade naturally as they grow older so do not expect your attempts to keep the colors consistent may succeed.

That is one large loach, I have a 6" loach whose colour as yet has not faded but even if it did I don't keep loaches just for their colour there personality is what attracted me to them in the first place.

Our local pet-store had one about same size C loach.Loach was alone in tank for couple weeks and then someone must have took it home.

Local pet-stores have loaches almost everytime (one time I saw about 40-50 of them in 100L tank),they are usualy small baby-loaches.

My oddball and his/hers normal friend :D loach number 3 is hiding.
