Just secured this oddie. Sorry for the rotten pic. I (DUH!!) saved it as a bitmap and then, converted it to a gif. Looks like what comes out the other end. Anywho...This cat is awaiting my arrival in Orlando next week. It's a 15" blind "cave" tiger shovelnose catfish. Should look great in the new 250gal I ordered for arrival on the 14th. (I actually ordered the tank for S&G but, this cat should look great in it).

Nice leucistic TSN Oddball. .Congrats !

I'm assuming leucistic, or more likely xanthic due to the gold-yellow color. Can't ascertain albinism because of the lack of eyes.

Is it actually blind?

It has no eyes. Just flesh-filled eye sockets like the Texas blind cave fish.

I don't tend to concern myself with the price. If I didn't spend $ on fish, I'd waste it on crap like paying bills.

nice tsn shame about the eyes though.

Of the 4 that I know of in the US, 3 are eyeless and 1 has useless blind eyes with atrophy.

That's a sweet fish to match your namesake. I SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE that you enjoy fish that can't see.

We have something in common. Hell... my ophthalmologist said my eyesight was so bad it was like a cross between a fruitbat and a mole. He should be well healed by now.

Maybe you can't see after all. That doesn't qualify your fish as invisible though.

is it a defect the no eye thing or is it just a fish that has evolved to live in a very dark place ?

looks nice i think all shovelnose cats have bad eyesight and just hunt with the wiskers

will this get as big as a normal TSN

I'm curious as to whether that would be considered a different species, and if so, how recently it branched off from the regular iger shovelnose. In extreme conditions that kind of speciation would be extremely rapid. I also wonder what the results of breeding that with a normal TSN would be. Would they breed at all? would you get a blending of features, minus albinism, which is usually recessive, and have a het TSN with extremely limited vision or no eyes at all? that's really unique, and great job scoring one of those. I can tell you're gonna really enjoy having it.
