I already have a couple rays in my 220 but i need to know if i can use a 55 gallon tank as a growout tank for say three 4-5" Motoro's until they can go into the big tank ???? Or if the 55 won't work what size would you recommend?? Mind you this is ONLY a temp home not permanent by any means...

add a filter and plug it into your main tank... also depends on how long you plan on "growing them out"

Well i am going to do that also, i have some pups do anyday now and i am going to attempt keeping them in a 55 gallon, till i sell them and get them eating good. I was concerned about doing this, but i will have about 650gph filteration on my tank.

My plan is to keep a close eye on water parameters and possibly do daily water changes if needed. It is definitly not a good idea long term at all.!

My problem is my 2 other rays are 10-12" males and i don't want my 3 4" motoro females to get killed off by the 2 males as soon as i drop them in the tank.. That's why i'm looking for this growout tank.. I was thinking of hooking it to the big tank but just not sure how to do that yet.

otherwise just throw a divider in the big tank

You could use an overflow and treat the 55 like a sump. Just make sure the pump in the 55 has a good pre-filter or screen. IMO the footprint of the tank is very important when it comes to rays so a 40 breeder or 75g tank would be better than a 55.

Yea the other reason for the growout tank is to Q them at the same time as growing them out.. From what i've heard from other local guys by me that this place does a good job on their rays and treats for parasites and everything..
I might have to think about the FX5 thing and the overflow way.. I am running 2 FX5's on that tank and also a fluidized bed filter, so i might be able to work something out. I just don't want to dump a whole bunch on $$ into this setup..

then there ya go!, get a smalle filter for just the 55 while you quarantine them... after 2 weeks then take an inlet and an outlet from oposite fx5 filters and your two tanks are now 1, just watch it and make sure they are flowing together properly

I havent done this personally (linking two tanks with two filters) but I would definately fill the two fx5's as identically as possible to ensure the same flow. Just my .02
