I was at the LFS the other day and the gf picked out a fish. I didnt happen to bag the name, all she could remember was the words "deep" and "penga or panga" once I got home I released all the little guys into theyre new home and saw him, he's silver, with a black stripe thru the lateral line, theres a bit of barred striped behind that and a sharp vertical line across the cheek, passing right across the eye, reminds me of mascara. it dosent have any colour other than black or silver at the moment. and having a fish I dont know the name of is driving me completely bonkers! I called in and inquired about the tank and all the guy could tell me was they were 'pseudo deep penga' which resolved nothing other than the fact all pseudo's I found were mbuna and this is deffinitly not a mbuna, it looks very much haplochromis body shape with big eyes

If I had to take a guess I would guess, Placidochromis electra "Deep Water Hap". But I don't think that is right, they don't have a black stripe thru the lateral line.
Check it out and see if it looks like it.

Well doesn't look like deep water hap. I does look kinda like some thing in the Protomelas taeniolatus (http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1362) family, like a red empress.

Its really hard to tell when its that small, you might just have to wait till it bigger and cross your fingers its a male.
Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

If it is just over a half inch ID may be possible but could not be definate and sexing it is for sure not really possible. I have no idea what it is. It needs to grow some first. Everything else would just be speculation.

From the picture I would say it is not what is called a deep water hap. If that helps in narrowing it down as to what it is not.
All I can say is I am leaning towards some Protomelas.
