ive been rockin the black gravel since i started
i think i want to add some sand to it just to see how it looks

The larger gravel will rise above the sand after a while unless you keep it mixed when you vac the gravel.

i agree with Gator. I just switched to sand a few weeks back and i still have some gravel showing up in the sand. I seem to like sand better than the gravel.

My rift lake tank is mix of natural gravel and black sand.. I love how it looks and my larger cichlids love it.. My red empress will spend all day sand sifting.. I think sand/gravel mix is the best substrate for malawi cichlids... Do it, and enjoy it.. Small gravel works best.. Hope this helps.

I can agree that sand will disappear in the gravel. I "lost" 20lbs of Tahiti Moon sand, it went under my Aquatic soil, can't wait to see the orange sand.

The orange sand looks pretty cool. It might look better if it was the whole tank though ;)
