after quitting trying to find a freshwater puffer i thought i would give figure 8's a shot now i know there brackish but they were being kept in freshwater wat would be the best way to acclimate them would it be to add salt everyday until it gets up to the required salinity

if you have your tank cycled and ready to go as a fresh water aquarium, you can aclimatise them as you would a regular tropical fish (float the bag ect...). then you would wanna add salt to your water changes to bring up the salinity to around 1.005 SG as figure 8's do best at this salt level. you can raise it up .002 per week, but no more as you'll kill off your beneficial bacteria.

if your tank is already set up as a brackish aquarium, you'll need to use the drip method of aclimatisation.

1. untie the bag or pace the fish and water in a container.
2. grab a lenth of airline tubing and tie a knot in the end.
3. then start to siphon water from the aquarium into the bag/container holding the fish
4. tighted or loosen the knot to adjust the amount of water flowing into the bag/container. 2-3 drops per second is ideal.

as the bag fills you need to remove some of the water to stop it from overflowing. remove water when required. when the salinity is the same as the tank you can slowly add the fish.

depending on the difference in salinity between the bag and the aquarium, it could take 90 mins, but it can be done quicker, if the salt levels are near enough the same that is. take your time so you dont stress the fish out. its worth the wait... :)

yeh it was already freshwate and i forgot to add he is a green spotted puffer...right now the specific gravity is about 1.003

I had two of them and they went around pestering my other fish and killed all my new arrivals....They look cute in the biggining and then afterwards you end up hating them trust me,
