The gold spots are more spores and electrode holes than spots...;). Did you know that e-eels aren't really eels, but are actually a type of knifefish, thus the electric capabilities! Kewl eh?

hey peanut a 55 is way to small for an electric eel they will max out at 8' but probally only 6' in an aquarium and yes they are part of the knife fish family their closest family is the electric catfish but BGk are cllose to

Peanut_Power

Its only 18" right now, so i was either gonna put IT in the 55gal for a few months, or put my pikes in the 55gal. and put it in the 75gal till it out grew it. I'm lookin for a lotta tankz actually. BUT I've gotta 300gal thats empty right now...;). Can you keep them as pairs/groups or are they too territorial.

Alex, DON'T ENCOURAGE HER!! HAHA!! She was askin me if she could keep it in her 30gal last night....shes going down the FH path and I can't stop her...:P

you can keep two together they will not argue as long as they are around the same size and are not crowded i would say minimum of 600 gallon for two but i would go bigger if you want two of these try and indoor pond its the way to go

600gal? Hmm......you contradict what everyone else has been saying. Most peeps tell me that they aren't very active and that they could live for life in a 125gal. Personally, i was rather confused how a 6' fish could live in a 125gal. for life...haha. 600gal is pushing my limit though, especially for just two fish. I can do a 300gal dedicated tank, but 600...oy.

Electric eels can get to 8' long anybody who says a 125 is big enough for life is cruel because that is way to small im 6'4" and i wouldnt want to be kept in a 5' box

Prowler

People say a 125 can house a E.Eeel for life because the fish is extremely inactive. In the wild it just finds a spot to rest and waits for food.

rottbo
03-09-2006, 3:01 AM
sorry but a fish that can grow 8' long does not deserve to live in a tank 6' long this is inhumane and they dont always lay around they move you know so what do they do just move up and down??? yeah right think about it 125 not big enough

Prowler
03-09-2006, 3:07 AM
Don't get me wrong I totally agree with you. Although, I don't feel they need as much space as a normal 8' fish however.

rottbo
03-09-2006, 3:14 AM
i agree with that but my minimum tank standards are way bigger than most peoples i would say you need atleast a 10x4 footprint to comfortably house one of these beasts
