I heard that its hard if not impossible to sex them while young.. but the method is the sames as arowanas... males have bigger and wider mouths than females.

I dont think they are sexable but then I am not an expert on arapaimas. I just like them :D

Males are suppose to be more colourful then female and I aggree with the method that redtailfool state earlier in that "males have bigger and wider mouths than females".

There is no visual diffence that I've ever seen. My males have been picked out at breeding time when they start nesting.
